A wave is defined as a disturbance which travels through a medium, transporting energy from one location without transporting matter.(www.glenbrook.k12.il.us/gbssi/phys/Class/waves/u1011c.html) In this project we analyze the wave of a generic string using a linear and a non-linear equation. The main point of this project is to show how differential wave equations can be solved numerically. The complexity of solving differential equations also increases vastly with the introduction of non-linear terms. With non-linear terms there may not be an analytical solution to a problem so a numerical method must be explored. In our demonstration we show how a linear differential wave equation can be solved numerically. This type of model can be modified to simulate many different conditions and has great flexibility.
