The Dark Side of Pre Paid Legal
A friend of mine told me to come to an information session with a bunch of weird guys who claim they made $100, 000 dollars in their first year. I go to the Meeting and there they play a brainwashing video. right then and thereI thought I could quit my University Education at Queens University and make SERIOUS CASH!!!! The presenter was a slick sales talker and only told you the things you wanted to hear. There are more recruiters on campus in Ontario like University of Toronto trying to lure kids into this scam.
I paid $149 Canadian to start the business, and another 25 dollars a month for the Legal services. Before I paid the money, I talked to all my friends, showed them the videos, brochures, and they all broke out laughing. They couldn't stop laughing at how I could fall for this company. I told my upline what happened, and they told me to stay away from all negative people and your friends. Sounds like a cult huh? It get's even worse, You have to pay for the website 19.95 US a month to get your own email address, and a few tid bits for your pre paid legal website where you can sign up/scam people. It's optional, but they forced me to pay it using my credit card. I find out about the countless lawsuits against pre paid legal, and SEC busting PPL for accounting irregularities. My upline told me to pay the money, or I might miss the opportunity to "make so much money" if I didn't pay up right then and there. So I pay up even though my heart says DON'T.Things went from bad to worse. 6 months after promoting this product, I realize that my director changed the fact that the member retention rate is not 76%. It's 50%. HALF OF ALL members who sign, QUIT the plan after year 1. I quit because he withheld and lied about information that everybody has a right to know. I paid $600 dollars in total and never got a dime back. To get paid you must do 1 of 2 things. A) Find 3 people and make them pay $249 to start the business. classic pyramid scheme. or B) Sell 5 memberships. You get paid 100 dollars for every person who signs up. If your friends decide to find people then u build up a residual income. My lawyer tha pre paid legal gave me (Mills and Mills in Toronto, Ontario) could not speak English, and he refused to take action when I needed help.
Even the 25% discount rate is so expensive because their hourly rate is 500 dollars an hour. I would like to alert everybody that pre paid legal is not what it seems to be. they take your money and they forget about you. All my friends keep saying "How's the cult leader? How many people did u brainwash today?" It became quite comical. I would never have joined if I stepped back and looked at reality. A lot of Associates are in the same position as myself from the United States and Canada. You really don't need the legal plan in my expert opinion. You can get a will done using a 50 dollar will kit and it's the same thing.
Here's what my friend in Los Angelas, California had to say "Multi level marketing always, repeat, ALWAYS ends in regret for the great majority of those who bought into the scam. PPL? No difference. Some will make a lot, some will make a little, most will lose all. Can there really be that many idiots (1.4 million?) who have bought a "membership"? Why would anyone buy into a program, correction, pogram, that sells the services of unnamed laywers, with no agreement on what they will charge for, let's say, something simple like a traffic ticket defense? Someone here posted that they called a PPL lawyer who offered a "discount" of $375 an hour from $500 an hour. People, I work in a law office with real attorneys - former district attorneys - in L.A. on Wilshire Blvd. They are on the high end of the market at $250 an hour. No one - repeat: NO ONE charges $500 an hour for a traffic defense. Who does? Anti-trust attorneys, appelate attorneys, the very high-end criminal defense attorneys, etc. Traffis defense attorneys claiming a discount from $500? What a scam.Truly, PPL is a sucker bet."
Forbes magazine, business week, and the NY Post all say PPL uses aggressive sales tactics like mlm (scam to me), not disclosing the whole truth to customers, and under the table payoffs for example paying an equities magazine employee 30,000 dollars US to write something good about the pre paid legal stock on NYSE. ahem, ethics. Always, good ethics means good company. look at Enron, worldcom. they went to a bust.
