| Welcome to the homepage for the MKG&W. I will be trying to keep this site as updated as possible so please check back often.
Perhaps I should tell you a little about myself. My name is Mark Wegner. I live in Hurley, South Dakota, a town of about 425 people located about a half hour southwest of Sioux Falls. I have been into trains and model trains for about 6 years (that is if you don't count the Thomas the Tank Engine toys). My favorite railroads are the Burlington Northern and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe. My first layout was a little 4x8 that my dad and I layed track on. This layout sat without scenery for a couple of years until I must have gotten bored one day and decided to work on it. I was instantly hooked, and the rest is history. Although my original layout is no longer with us, I have taken the wealth of knowlege gained from it to build another layout, the Mannchilde, Karls Grove, and Winchestertonfieldville. This layout covers an area of about 12x10 feet. Track has been layed and scenery is well under way, but with a good bit of work remaining. See the layout page for complete specs on the MKG&W |

My EMD/BN SD60MAC is almost complete! Painting and decaling was finished about a week ago and it looks better than I ever imagined. Hopefully I will get some pictures up soon. My next assignment is a project that a fellow club member is paying me to do: applying decals to 18 Great Northern ore cars. This will probably occupy most of my time for the next few weeks, but the extra money will be nice. Unfortunately, it looks as though my goal of finishing the layout by summer's end isn't going to happen, although scenery near the town of Karl's grove is about one foot from being finished. In addition, I have been doing some switching in Karl's Grove, a real challenge due to the switchback that serves the scrap yard. I am hoping to finish the trackwork in Winchestertonfieldville soon so that I can start filling out car cards and waybills and really get to operating the layout.
