Aside from capturing most of the news and attention, the UFC had an unexpected effect. Vladimir Borodine is apparently a good friend of Igor Zinoviev's and was with him at the UFC. With Igor's injuries, Vladimir and his fighters decided to stay with their friend and bowed out of their NECAF matches. One match was cancelled and another was filled by a last minute alternate.
