Begin understanding Japanese today! There are numerous lessons on this site that will ease you into speaking Japanese. The lessons are aimed at the complete novice, but for the more advanced there are the intermediate lessons to study.
'Lessons' might not be the most appropriate word as there are no actual quizzes - but you can set your own tests can't you? The pages are all written in roman characters to make it easier for beginners but we cannot stress how important it is to begin learning Hiragana and Katakana (the Japanese character sets) today. It is very difficult at first but just perservere with it and you'll get there. As soon as you recognise your first character without having to look it up you'll find that more soon follow.
The tutorial pages are all printer-friendly. We find the best way to use them offline is to print as 'Booklet' and carry them around in your jacket pocket to revise when you have a few spare moments :)

Japanese broadcast onto the web in an entertaining yet informative style. The studio is based in Japan with an American host, aided by his Japanese
collegues, and covers a wide variety of Japanese. By this we mean formal and informal Japanese, slang, survival phrases, beginner and advanced
levels, culture and more.
You can even downloadthe podcasts to your hard drive and pop them onto your mp3 player! Essential listening - you will learn so much this way.
thejapanesepage.com is a community-driven place on the web to learn the Japanese language
and more about the culture. You can find kanji characters for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test on the site also, though they are also covered by
this document.
