SO WHAT IS EXACTLY WARP 47??
Star Trek's use of the number 47 is a long maintained inside joke. It started back in The Next Generation when writer Joe Menosky began including 47 in his Trek scripts. Since then many other writers have jumped on this inside joke and included 47 in their Star Trek scripts... from TNG to Deep Space Nine and now Voyager. So what's the significance of 47? It is a mathematical concept that all numbers equal 47 as proven by Donald Bentley, professor of mathematics at Pomona College. Joe Menosky, a graduate of Pomona College, liked that information and developed it into one of the most whimsical and compelling inside jokes of television history. Now that Joe Menosky has taken an executive role on Voyager's staff, be sure to watch for even more 47's!
