Memorable Moments

ROXANN DAWSON
"One of my most memorable and the first one that comes to mind is sitting in the Paramount Theater, seeing a screening of our first episode "Caretaker", and hearing our Star Trek theme for the first time and actually seeing myself in all this full make-up, acting as B'Elanna for the first time. I'll never forget that as it was both emotional and haunting to see myself in all this make-up. As an actress you really identify yourself with your face and to suddenly see somebody who doesn't even look like me acting up there was very, very strange. I'm so used to it now that it's no big deal, but it was really a haunting moment."

ROBERT PICARDO
I have a lot of really nice memories. The episode Jonathan Frakes directed (“Projections”), which was my first big show as an actor, was a lot of fun. I think that the scene in “Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy” when all three regular female cast members are throwing themselves at the Doctor was the highpoint of my life. I would like to have a scene like that pretty much in every episode of every job I have for the rest of my life. Especially with three such exquisite looking and talented women as our three regular cast members.

ROBERT DUNCAN MCNEILL
"Last year, the night before Christmas break, the whole cast was working and at the end of the shoot, we all went to Kate Mulgrew's trailer and made martinis. We rarely have time to socialize together since we are so busy with our own lives and families so it was a special bonding experience for us and a chance to spend time together before the holidays."

RICHARD JAMES, Production Designer:
"The thing that stands out is that it was such a fast seven years! I can't believe it. Seeing Voyager on the screen the first time, you get a sense of pride. They screened the first episode ["Caretaker"] on the big screen at the [Paramount] Theater and it was fun to see that and hear the music...There's a definite sense of pride, you feel proud that you've been a part of something that has the history of Star Trek. It's unique, it's not just another television program because it does have a uniqueness about it, the fans. They sort of drive the whole thing."

MICHAEL WESTMORE, Make-Up Supervisor and Designer:
“Favorite memories all kind of roll into one. Seven years go by really fast and, like Next Generation and Deep Space Nine it’s been enjoyable, it’s been creative and it’s all one big enjoyable time. I’ve never gone home saying, 'Gee, I wish I wasn’t doing what I was doing. I wish I was doing something else.' It’s been fun to come to work every single day."

ETHAN PHILLIPS:
"I have many fond memories of my time on Voyager, but one that sticks out was the very first time my makeup went on. During the process of applying it, I was without my glasses and I'm near blind. I had no idea what it would look like! After everything was done, all that remained were the yellow contact lens, which are made for my prescription. I put them on and looked in the mirror and Neelix was staring back at me. He looked beautiful and alien and brand new. The illusion just blew me away! This was a guy I was gonna have fun with."

KATE MULGREW:
"My favorite memory is also the most daunting. The first shot, the first day, on the Bridge, which ended when I sat in the Captain's Chair and gave that order to end all orders - 'Engage' - thus stepping into science fiction history. Quite amazing."

TIM RUSS:
"We were filming a scene in the briefing room during an episode of the show in which Ray Walston was guest starring. It was a seven page, grueling scene with tons of dialog which had been changed several times prior to shooting, thus Ray and a few of us were struggling through the lines.
At one point, about halfway through the day, there was a moment while we were waiting for a lighting fix, and Ray spontaneously quoted a line from "Hamlet." Robert Beltran, who was also in the scene, quoted the next line from the play in return. The two of them then proceeded to recite almost the entire scene perfectly and effortlessly as the rest of us watched on in stunned silence. The moment ended with applause from the whole cast and crew. It was truly amazing."
