Warriors Finish With 6-3 Log In 1962
Louie Villicana Earns MVP Honors

After a promising 3-0 start, the Warriors got hit by the injury bug and never recovered. The 1962 team finished 4-3 in league play; 6-3 overall for the season. The Bishop Broncos won the Desert-Inyo League for the second year in a row, while Desert High (Edwards AFB) finished in 2nd, and Boron took 3rd.

In the season opener in McFarland, the Warriors blanked the opponent, 25-0, as speedy Richard Valenzuela scored 3 TD's including a 60 yard TD interception return; he also caught 2 TD passes from QB Bob Blair; and Larry Mather added the final TD on a 2 yard plunge. Blair was 12-14 passing.

In Week 2, the Warriors upset Burroughs in Ridgecrest on a fake FG attempt. Warrior FG kicker Louie Villicana took the snap and connected on a pass to Richard Valenzuela for the only Warrior TD. Blair kicked the PAT for the narrow 7 to 6 victory. Blair was 10-22 passing, good for 119 passing yards.

In the DIL opener against Trona, the Warriors scored 9 TD's to defeat the Tornadoes, 61-0. Leading the TD assault were running backs Valenzuela, John Capdeville, and Joel Garcia. Blair also had another terrific game passing.

After a 3-0 start, the Warriors suffered their first loss of the season in Week 4 to Desert, 35-6. The lone Warrior TD came on a one yard plunge by Valenzuela.

It was back-to-back losses for the Warriors in Week 5, as eventual league champion Bishop throttled Tehachapi, 26-6. Blair hit Valenzuela in the open field with a pass, and the speedy player raced 86 yards for the only Warrior TD. QB Blair threw for 172 yards in the game.

Boron made it three losses in a row for Tehachapi with a solid 33-7 win over Tehachapi in Week 6. It was the combination of Blair to Valenzuela again for a 6 yard pass play (Blair PAT run).

Finally the Warriors returned to the win column in Week 7 with a 40-0 blanking of Lone Pine. Valenzuela score 2 TD's; Capdeville, Garcia, Blair, and Jerry Davis scored 1 TD apiece.

Two wins in a row for Tehachapi with a 44-7 victory over Kern Valley in Week 8. The scoring parade included TD runs of 20 and 2 yards by Lloyd Knight; a 5 yard TD scamper by Garcia; a 2 yard dive for a TD by Blair; a Blair to Garcia 20 yard TD pass; and a one yard TD plunge by Bob Barrera.

In the season finale, the Warriors closed out the season with a three game winning streak, clubbing Mojave, 32-19. Blair scored on runs of 7, 1, and 1 yards; Knight scored on runs of 8 and 1 yards; Knight and Barreras each scoring on a PAT.

The offense was led by quarterback Bob Blair (6 TD's, 5 PAT's), running back Richard Valenzuela (9 TD's, 2 PAT's), sophomore fullback Joel Garcia (7 TD's), wide receiver "Tex" White, and all-around athlete John Capdeville. At times, Capdeville would fill in at quarterback, running back, or wide receiver.

Lineman Louie Villicana and White paced the mountainmen by being selected to the all-DIL first team. Villicana was also selected the Most Valuable Player of the team and John Partlow received the Most Outstanding Player award.

in the season finale at Mojave.
