The 2011 Warrior varsity football team advanced to the CIF Central Section Division II playoffs Friday night after defeating the Taft Wildcats on the Mountain, 42-8.

Tehachapi earned a respectable #4 seed and a first round bye. The Warriors will face Sunnyside-Fresno at home on Friday, November 25. Sunnyside was seeded #5 and was also given a first round bye.

The Warriors finished the regular season at 9-1, 5-0 in SSL play, earning the schools' ninth SSL crown since joining the league in 1992.

The Warriors are advancing to the valley playoffs for the 16th straight season under head coach Steve Denman. The Warriors won their first CIF Central Section Division II championship in 2010, and Division III championships in 2008 and 2007.

Earning the highest seeds in Division II were #1 Garces (9-1); #2 San Joaquin Memorial (7-3); #3 Clovis North (6-3); and #4 Tehachapi (9-1).

All first round playoff games begin Friday, November 18, at 7:00 pm.

Sunnyside-Fresno finished the season with a 6-4 record --- losing their last three league games. Sunnyside finished 2-3 in the County/Metro Athletic Conference (CMAC) with league members Edison-Fresno, San Joaquin Memorial, Bullard, Sanger, and Madera. The CMAC was won by Edison this year.

The Warriors and Wildcats played each other for the first time in a football game in 2010, with Tehachapi winning, 28-7, in a second round playoff game at Sunnyside Stadium.

There are 11 teams in the Division II tournament, and the Warriors would have to win three straight games to win a DII championship.

In the Division IV tournament, SSL runner-up Wasco (9-1; 4-1 SSL) earned a #3 seed and has a first round bye. Wasco will face #6 Arvin in the second round, who also received a bye. #8 Bakersfield Christian travels to #9 Roosevelt --- with the winner facing undefeated Washington Union-Fresno (10-0) in the second round.
