The Warriors played host to one of the Central Section’s top Division I schools last Friday night in Liberty, and in the end, Tehachapi’s guests spoiled the home opener to post a 45-7 win.

Liberty (2-1) used a balanced attack that recorded 248 rushing yards and 172 passing yards in the runaway victory, scoring on seven of their nine drives of the game.

With the Patriots leading 14-0 at the end of the first quarter, the Warriors capped off their lone touchdown drive of the evening with a Jorge Garcia 5-yard touchdown run, set up off a long sweep by Skylar Valencia, who bolted down the sideline for a 41 yard gain.

Garcia led Tehachapi with 87 yards on 21 carries and Valencia had 50 yards on four attempts.

On special teams, Dalton Scaggs connected on Tehachapi’s PAT, while Dakota Medovitch had a busy night with six punts for an average of 34 yards per boot.

On defense, Michael Contreras, Ty Curry and Blake Panek all recorded sacks, with Panek’s sack also causing a fumble for a David Carter recovery to thwart a second quarter Patriot drive.

Liberty came into the game as the sixth rated team in the central section, coming off a narrow 10-9 loss to Fresno-Central the week before.

Tehachapi (2-1) will look to bounce back with a home contest against Arvin this Friday. The Bears come into the game with a 3-0 record after defeating South last Friday night.

Liberty Puts It All Together
In 45-7 Route of Tehachapi

TEHACHAPI -- Offense, defense and special teams: Liberty dominated all three aspects in pounding Tehachapi 45-7 Friday night at Coy Burnett Field.

The Patriots complete-effort victory featured three touchdown passes by quarterback Josh Medina, two of them to Kenny Davis.

Corbin Jountti added 130 yards and a pair of TDs on the ground for Liberty, which outgained Tehachapi 417-218.

"We had a good week of practice and coming up to Tehachapi where they have just great tradition, I was glad we put on a good showing tonight," Liberty coach Tony Mills said.

Liberty started strong as Medina completed his first six passes, including a 26-yard touchdown to Davis to cap the game's opening possession.

Medina never cooled off, finishing 13-of-14 for 172 yards.

The Patriots led 21-7 at halftime, mixing Medina's pinpoint passing and the strong running of Jountti to score touchdowns on their first three possessions.

Jountti had a pair of 2-yard touchdown runs among his seven carries for 115 yards in the first half.

Tehachapi, which didn't complete a single pass, ran 31 times for 166 yards in the first half.

Down 14-0, the Warriors drove 80 yards on 10 plays for their only touchdown, a Jorge Garcia 5-yard run.

Garcia had only three rushing attempts for 15 yards in the second half and finished with 87 yards on 21 carries.

The second half was all Liberty.

"The first half we played them tough but we just didn't tackle," Tehachapi coach Steve Denman said. "Against a good team with good running backs you better play fundamentally sound and we weren't."

A Kole Hark 46-yard punt return late in the third quarter set up the second Medina-to-Davis touchdown, making it 35-7.

The Warriors played the entire second half with third string quarterback Bobby Sharp after starter Bobby Howell and second stringer Dalton Scaggs both went down with injuries.
