Over Burros, 21-14
RIDGECREST -- Utilizing ball control and timely big plays on offense, the Warriors upset Burroughs and their dynamic quarterback Derrick Dyson to register a 21-14 on the road.
Tehachapi wasted no time establishing their rhythm, reaching the endzone on their first series of the game by capping off a seven-play drive with a 29-yard touchdown run by Cory Lange.
Levi Garrett would also find Kash Knudson on a six-yard pass completion in the corner of the endzone seconds before halftime to go into the locker room, 14-7. Garrett finished the game going 3-3 for 62 yards and the crucial score.
"Keeping possession was key for us. They're an explosive offense and for us to be successful we had to keep them off the field," said head coach Steve Denman. "We had a few (turnover on downs) in the second half but our kids made the big plays when we needed it," said head coach Steve Denman.
With the game tied in the fourth quarter, Tehachapi would churn out a critical 13-play drive that would take nearly nine minutes off the game clock. Marcus Curiel, who finished the contest with 80 yards on 17 carries, would put the exclamation point on the march with a three-yard touchdown run.
Eight players registered carries for Tehachapi, keeping Burroughs off balance most of the night for 273 yards on the ground.
"We came out and did what we needed to do. We're happy to get the win,"added Denman.
Derrick Dyson finished the game for Burroughs with 69 yards passing and 41 yards on the ground, scoring twice. Frank Brown also had 59 yards on 11 carries.
