SHADOW WEAVER FOR BEGINNERS! (plus show info)

p>A long time ago in a galaxy not so far away aired a television show that wouldn't change our lives forever! Hardly anyone remembers the old cartoon 'She-Ra, Princess Of Power', spin-off of 'He-Man and the Masters Of The Universe', but for those of us who do, it holds special memories. The shows aired in '84-'86 (though some lucky parts of the world like here in Australia got to see the series' re-aired in about '90-'92). There were many different characters in 'She-Ra', partly due to the fact that it was a toy driven show- the more characters in it, the more action figures Mattel got to make, which leads to lots of $$$!

Now, a bit about the plot of the show. It takes place on a far away planet known as Etheria. A huge army called the Horde led by the ruthless Hordak is trying to take over the planet. He used to have a Force Captain called Adora, but all that changed when Adam came from his world of Eternia to intervine! You see, Adam had a magical sword, and whenever he raised it and said 'By the power of Grayskull! I have the power!' He was transformed into He-Man- the most powerful man in the universe! Grayskull was, by the way, an ancient castle on Eternia that held many secrets and infanite magics. Adam had been told by the Sorceress of Grayskull to find someone on Etheria, though she could not tell him who. She gave him a sword which, on Etheria, led him to Force Captain Adora. Well, as it turns out, the two are long lost brother and sister! Adora had been stolen from Eternia as a baby by Hordak, and has been raised in the Horde believing that they were the good guys. The sorceress contacted her through the sword one night, revealing the Force Captain's background, and departing with the words 'for the honour of Grayskull, Adora!' So Adora held the sword aloft and repeated 'For the honour of Grayskull! I am She-Ra!' And was magically transformed into She-Ra, princess of power! Since then, Adora has left the Horde, and though she very much wanted to join her brother on Eternia, she could not leave Etheria under the Horde's evil reign. Now, whenever there is trouble, Adora transforms into She-Ra and sorts the bad guys out!

Adora keeps her alter-ego a secret, to protect herself and the ones she loves. Among those who knew were Light Hope, spirit guardian of the mystical Crystal Castle, Madame Razz, a forgetful, kind old witch and Kowl, a funny little part-owl creature. Also, Adora has become the leader of the Great Rebellion, a group of Etherians fighting against the Horde's reighn over their planet.

Now, onto the main subject of this page- Shadow Weaver! She serves the evil Horde, and is the only magic-worker in the vile army (which can land her in trouble sometimes!).

Weaver always wears that long, red robe with the hood that covers her face totally. In fact, all we ever get to see of her is her hands and glowing yellow eyes.

Her domain outside of The Fright Zone is a palace called Horror Hall, which lies inside the 'Nameless Volcano'.

Even though she appears to have a lot of freedom, Shadow Weaver truely is a slave to the Horde. If she aggrivated Hordak enough, he could strip her of all her powers, leaving her defensless and powerless. This was almost demonstrated in the episode entitled 'A Loss For Words', where Weaver and Hordak were arguing over the reliability of sorcery. After voicing her opinion against Hordak's, Shadow Weaver pretty much knew she was out of line. Hordak trapped her in a painful electrical prison and she had to grovel for his mercy.

Weaver's actually quite smart- much moreso than Hordak! But of course he refuses to believe that of anyone! Technology and science are the weapons he favors, not magic.

The most important Shadow Weaver episode, however, is 'The Price Of Power', where her entire background is explained. If you think Shadow Weaver's cool in any way, shape or form, go check out this episode!

Shadow Weaver is voiced by Linda Gary, who sadly passed away in 1996. She had done many other voice-overs, such as various She-Ra and He-Man characters, The Land Before Time and the smurfs, to name just a few!
