BabaJi was like the universe, full of gifts and blessings for everyone who came to him.
Once a English lady who was the wife of a English doctor, came to Dr. Deewan Singh ( a
Gurmukh who was serving as a doctor in Hoti Mardan's Civil hospital ) and started crying
loudly. Consoling her, Dr. Sahib asked her as to what was wrong. She said that her husband
had gone to England for one month on some important work. But a long time had passed and
there was no news about him and she had almost gone insane worrying about his welfare. In
sheer desperation she asked Dr. Sahib for help. On hearing this, Dr. Deewan Singh thought
for some time and then suddenly said "There is one solution, if we go to BabaJi and
ask for help, I'm very sure he will fulfill our request. Tommorow is Sunday, let's seek
his darshan and request him to drive away our sorrow". Reassured the English lady
said, "Dr. Sahib, let's do as you deem right. All i want back is my husband".
Seeing the determination of the lady, Dr. Sahib finalized the programme.
The English lady, reached Dr. Sahib's residence early next morning. Dr. Sahib was also
ready but he requested the lady to the dera on foot for which the lady readily agreed (as
she was ready to do anything to get back her husband). After walking for 4 miles they
reached the dera but came to know that BabaJi was sitting on the banks of the river with
his devotees. They then started off towards the river and walking slowly finally reached
their destination. They were physically exhausted but if there is hope of a problem being
resolved, a person is ready to do anything. They sat down, after bowing in front of
BabaJi. Devotees were requesting BabaJi to resolve their problems and BabaJi was urging
everyone to take the Name of the Lord as it was the best medicine.
"Naam sunat darad dukh latha ||"
When a devotee would agree to adopt BabaJi's medicine, BabaJi's heart would feel happy
as a flower in full bloom. In the midst of this, some devotees brought a old lady ( who
was sitting on a bed, manja ) and humbly said "BabaJi, this lady is sufferring and is
very unhappy. She has tried all possible meidcation but nothing has helped her. Please
bless her so that she she relieved of this affliction. BabaJi asked the devotees
"What is causing her sorrow?". The devotees humbly replied "BabaJi, for the
last two years, she has been down with paralysis". BabaJi took a pledge from the old
lady, that she would for the rest of her life chant God's name, read Gurbani and be a part
of the sadh sangat. He then told the devotees to feed the lady with a mixture of curd and
sugar (shakar). The old lady urged the devotees ( who very taken aback at this medicine )
to feed the mixture soon as she had full faith in BabaJi. As soon as she ate the mixture,
the section of her body that was down with paralysis started moving and in no time she was
on her feet. She immediately went to BabaJi and laid her head on his feet. On seeing this
miracle, the whole sangat uttered "Dhan Sant Jan! Dhan Satguru!". As time
passed, devotees took leave of BabaJi and went back to their homes.
As soon he was free, BabaJi asked Dr. Deewan Singh Sahib for the reason of his visit. Dr.
Sahib in a very humble tone said "Maharaj Ji! This English lady has a request for
which she is standing in presence of your holy feet. Her husband had gone to England for
some work, but many years have passed and there is no news about him. As a result of which
she has become desperate. Maharaj Ji! please bless her so that her husband comes back
soon". On listening to this humble request, BabaJi said "Her husband will come
back, but tell her to get up every morning and remember God's name". Dr. Sahib told
the lady about BabaJi's sermon and she readily agreed to remember God's name every
morning. Dr. Sahib bowed in front of BabaJi and then went back home.
The English lady acting on BabaJi's words, would getup every morning and meditate on God's
name. As a result of this, her husband came back home in a few days time. On seeing her
husband, the lady was overjoyed and she immediately went to Dr. Deewan Sahib and told of
the news. They decided to visit Baba Karam Singh Ji the very next day.
Next morning, the English doctor and his wife reached Dr. Deewan Singh's residence and
together went to Baba Karam Singh Ji to inform him of the great news. As soon as the
English doctor bowed in front of BabaJi and saw his face, he could not take his eyes off
BabaJi. Everyone was surprised at this development. The English lady then nudging her
husband asked him as to what was the matter. The English doctor said, "I have seen
BabaJi once before too, but not here in Punjab, but in England in a hospital where i had
lost all hope of life". Dr. Deewan Singh Sahib said, "BabaJi lives here, at most
he may goto a devotees house to fulfill his wishes, but going to England is out of
question. On the other hand people's faces do match and resemble each other closely".
While going back home, the doctor insisted that it was "This very Sant who had come
to England and had inspired me ( who was bedridden) to utter God's name and had very
lovingly placed his hand over my body. He then urged me to go back to India. Beleiving
what he had said, I started meditating on God's name and slowly but surely my illness
started receding. Inspired by this development, i started spending more and more time
meditating on God's name and very soon i was back to normal. And i was soon discharged
from the hospital and immediately left for India."
Dr. Deewan Singh still did not believe the English doctor's story completely. But seeing
the English doctor's insistence and also seeing how BabaJi had cured the old lady, he too
was finally convinced that it was indeed Mahan BabaJi who had done all this.
