The daughter of a poet father and a writer mother, Isabel Dréan came naturally to her talent for the written word. Growing up in French-speaking Quebec, she wrote her first short story at the age of seven and continued writing throughout her childhood. Her aspirations to become an actress were evident at an early age. Isabel entertained friends and family by writing marionette shows and playing all parts. After a period of writing, which included the play, Etre ou N'etre
Pas, and a short film called Angie,Isabel decided to take
a more active role in bringing her words to life. This led her to the college improvisational group, Sports Theatre, and then to local theater and acting classes. During this time, Isabel played the lead in a short film that subsequently screened at the Montreal International Film Festival. Isabel also appeared in several television shows and independent films. |

In a decisive career move, Isabel moved to New York in 1993 to study at The Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. During that time, she created her own production company, Neiges Noires, for the purpose of promoting Quebecois theater in America. Isabel's first project was an Off-Broadway production of Four to Four, a play about the lives of four generations of women, in which she played one of the lead roles. The venue was the Ubu Theater, a well-known New York playhouse. Isabel moved to Los Angeles two years later, and has since appeared in many short films. She is currently studying at the Pacific Resident Theatre. Isabel started her screenwriting career in collaboration with her mother, Céline. Their first script, Welcome to Aberdeen, began with hundred of hours of telephone conversations. Céline subsequently moved to Los Angeles to finish the screenplay. Today, mother and daughter are concentrating on the story of a young girl growing up in rural Quebec, based on Céline's early childhood. Isabel and her mother are now actively working to bring Welcome to Aberdeen to the attention of the film community in Los Angeles and throughout the world. |
