Commonly Known Bits of History

Most of the commonfolk know little about their world's rich and often tragic history. There is quite a bit they do know, however. The following is information pretty much everyone in the world is assumed to know, with a few rare exceptions.

  • Some 1400 years ago was the time known as the Black Age, when for reasons unknown the Archmagi left this plane of existence for over a thousand years.
  • The Divine Reckoning was a mythical event thousands of years ago. Most believe the gods rained their apocalyptic wrath upon the world because the people were slacking in their worship.
  • The Hell's Fleet, while proven to be quite real, is not believed by most people. Since it hasn't been sighted in a quarter century, many children grew up to cautionary tales of the Fleet, and so assume it is simply a story to scare children.
  • The Alaborn Province and the Mannix Kingdom have been in conflict almost since the two realms began, mostly over territory along the River Running. They are currently at war, known as the Third Territory War. It has so far lasted 39 years.
  • The infamous King Viktor Wilhelm I ruled the southern realms of Eriador (now the Wilhelm Kingdom) from 3050ca to 3072ca. He was a wicked man, and the epitome of a tyrant. He was murdered by his wife after she escaped imprisonment.
  • In 3215ca, the savage tribes of the Tenden Mountains mysteriously attacked the ancestral dwarven city of Dargonholm. Dwarves were forced to flee into the nearby foothills. They have attempted to retake the city twice in the past century, and have been thwarted both times.
