It’s a bumpin’ bruisin’ brawlin’ bash! Nintendo has put a spin on fighting games with a classic, Super Smash Brothers. This unique game in its genre has pitted famous Nintendo characters against each other in a free-for-all match. Common characters such as Mario and Pikachu, battle oldies, like Ness from Earthbound, and Samus Aran. Remember those “Link could beat up Mario” like arguments, now’s your chance to prove it.

Graphics (8.5)- The game’s graphics are either amazing, or blocky. It just depends where you are. Some characters like Mario and Link are rather blocky, but ones like Kirby and Jigglypuff easily make up for it. A lot of elements are 2-dimentional, like the other pokemon that appear, or the backgrounds, but they’re hard to notice while your beating up on your friends.

Sound (9)- Since you’re beating the living daylights out of your opponents, the sound isn’t really noticed, but is truly excellent. The music that goes with each arena is fitting, the items sound unrealistic (for what they are) though, sounding more like a kid’s fighting game, which definitely contributed to it’s E (everyone) rating.

Play Control (9.5)-The controls are easy enough to learn, and they occupy all the buttons but the control pad. Simple moves are easy to do, and they are enough to win. Happily, there are no 100-button combinations like in other fighting games. There are also moves for just about every position you may encounter. The list of moves for each character are different, but relatively the same.

Fun Factor (9.5)-This game really can heat up when you and your opponent are duking it out when you both are at one stock, five seconds to spare, or in Sudden Death. The one player mode does get quite boring after about one time through. It is really repetitive, but the multi-player is great, whether your opponent be human or computer. You can play with four of your closest friends at once, or if you don’t have four friends, a computer opponent. If you would like to see who’s better, you can have up to four computer players at once go head to head to head to head, with lots of weird and wacky items, like a paper fan, or even a bomb.

Replay Value (10)-With seven different arenas, twelve different characters, and a huge move list, this game will keep you coming back for more. This game can test how good you are at fighting games, or be just for fun. With so many modes of play, you won’t put this game down for a long, long time.
