FEMALE CHAMPIONS
Your webmaster have found with the help of John Sadiek that in the mid 60's a female championship draught was organized and was won by Miss. S. Renwick. Now (in 2000) she is +/- 57 years old and a school teacher by profession. In those days the federation was lead by Mr. Derby and Mr. Bakas Adjiedji was the big promotor of this sport in Suriname.
The federation has since then not organized female championship games. As such there is no formal female champion.
For a long time now Mrs. Mireille Sumter participates in the national
championship and has given many top male players a bad time over the years.
Mireille can be considered the strongest female player in Suriname.
Over the last 2 years we have seen a growth in the number of girls picking up the game. The is mainly due to the draught lessons given in several parts of the country,
