The Little Boy Who Worked
Brother A. B. McReynolds closes
his sermon, "Precious Promises Jesus.”
With the story of the poor boy who worked his way into
the circus. The circus was coming
to town,
One poor little boy, the son of a widowed mother, wanted so badly to see
the show, but he knew There was no money for a ticket. On circus day he arose
very early and went to see the circus
Come
to town. When the wagons arrived he asked the boss if he might work for a
ticket to see the
Show.
All day long the boy and six other lads
worked in helping to set up the circus. They carried water and tent stakes and
seats and canvas. Finally the tent was all ready for the big show and the boss
told them that they could run home and eat their supper.
"What about our tickets?" asked the boy?
"You don't need any tickets. Just
be here at the tent door tonight, and I'll see that you get in," was the
reply.
The boy hurried home, hastily swallowed
a bite of supper and sped back to the show grounds.
About seven
o'clock the band came out and began to play, and the townspeople began to come.
They
purchased their tickets and went inside, and the boys who had worked were left
standing outside. In despair the boy approached the gatekeeper and said,
"Mr. Gate-keeper; me and six other boys worked all day to see the show;
can we go in?" But the gatekeeper refused to admit anyone without tickets.
Brokenhearted, the boy and his friends stood by the tent door. At just the
last minute the boss came rushing around the tent, took the boys to the
gatekeeper and said, "Let them in; they've been working for me."
Some day we shall stand before the
great tent. Within there will be bright lights and sweet music,
And we are going to want to go in more than
we ever wanted anything in all of our lives, but we will
Have any tickets. We will remain outside
unless the Great Master will say to the Keeper of the Gate,
"It is all
right. Let them come in. They have been working for Me."
Do you have an Advocate who will
supply an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus
Christ?
