GOOD NEWS
Text: 2
Tim. 1:10.
INTRODUCTION:
A 4-year old boy
recited his "memory verse" thus: "Don't be a-scared; I've got
news for you."
I
have news for you—good news--the gospel.
"Gospel"
is a much abused and misunderstood word.
Condemning sin, pleading for Christian unity, or
answering, "What must I do to be saved?" is not the gospel.
"Gospel" means good news. Of what does it
consist?
PROPOSITION: There
are three elements, which comprise the Gospel.
I. FACTS-I
Cor. 15:1-4.
1. Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures.
2. Christ
was buried.
3. Christ has
been raised on the third day according to the scriptures.
II. COMMANDS-I
Pet. 4:17.
A fact cannot be
obeyed; there are commands in the gospel
And these were given when the gospel was preached.
1. Believe on the lord Jesus. Acts 16:31.
2. Repent and turn from sin. Acts 3:19
3. Be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Acts 2:38.
In obeying the commands we reenact the facts of the
gospel.
III.
PROMISES-2 Pet. 1:4.
1. Sins blotted out. Acts 3:19.
2. Gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38.
3. A home in heaven. Col. 1:5.
What God has promised He is able to perform? Rom. 4:21
CONCLUSION:
This is the good news, the gospel:
1.
Facts--to be believed.
2.
Commands--to be obeyed.
3.
Promises-to is enjoyed.
You
believe the facts. Will you obey the commands, that you might enjoy the
promises?
