Flying and Gliding Flying is one of the key elements of the ATC it is one of the major subjects that are taught e.g. airmanship and principles of flight. We fly from various RAF bases around the UK and fly in the new Grob Tutors, a double seated, piston engined aircraft. and is used mainly as a cadet trainer. For flying in the aircraft a cadet is taking an AEF (Air Experience Flight) and can then earn a Flying Scholarship. Each flight is recorded in the Powered Flying log in the cadets 3822. Before each flight a cadet must watch a flight safety video before donning their flying suit and parachute, and if this is your first flight complete a parachute certificate by pulling on a ripcord.

Gliding is another activity that the ATC participates in and holds the largest collection of gliders in the UK. A cadet starts off with completing a GIC (Glider Induction Course) and then, once 16, completing a solo flight. The ATC flies 4 types of glider the Viking, Janus and Valiant and the powered glider, the Vigilant.

The German Built Grob Tutor TI has now taken the place of the Scottish Aviation Bulldog in the AEF.
