Shoestring Theater Free Workshop
for Making Stuff for the St. Patrick's Day Parade
March 9, 2002 -- Noon to 6 pm

St. Patrick's Day Parade is Sunday, March 17, 2002

Everyone is welcome to this free workshop!

We will have lots of materials, examples and written instructions for you to learn many ways to create effective inexpensive things to use in parades.

Giant puppets walking down the street, made of pvc pipe or thin wood strips, fabric and styrofoam are lightweight, low cost and AMAZING! A walking puppet with moving arms can be operated by one person. One or two more people and you've got moving feet!

Learn simple sewing skills to make costumes. Spray paint and easy alterations can jazz up ordinary clothing.

Parades are more than visual. Plan simple choreography, music and antics to amuse the crowds.

Brainstorm your own entry.

Not much surplus material will be at the workshop so you can make something and take it home. But you can learn techniques and still have 8 days to make your own stuff for the parade.

The St. Patrick's Day Parade has no entry procedure -- just show up and be in it! Invite your friends to come and watch!
