SPIDERMAN

Spiderman

Finally we get to see a Spiderman movie after all these years, tons of cartoon shows, comics and one extremely dreadful live tv series. The movie stars Toby Maguire as Peter Parker and of course Spiderman, Kristen Dunst plays Mary Jane and William Dafoe plays the Green Goblin. And beleive me it was not a disapointment.
The plot is nothing special but mainly deals with the Green Goblin taking revenge on the corpoate guys who want to take his company away from him. And of course it's up to Spiderman to stop them. The movie also sets up the creation of Spiderman and the Green Goblin and show their early years.
This is one of the best comic book movies I've seen ranking up there with the first Batman movie but not quite with the first two Superman movies. The costumes are great and are probably the cornstone to the film's success. The way the characters lives continue to merge throughout the film remind me of the way the characters in the Star Wars films come together.
Taking a look at the individual characters I'd have to say the Green Goblin blows Spiderman right off the screen. Dafoe creates one of the most interesting villians in quite a while. Maguire does a better job with Parker than he can with the limited dialogue given to Spiderman. Dunst is quite aceptable as eye candy in the movie and does a good job with the character
. The scenes of spiderman swinging through the cities' landscape is quite extrodinary, but the shots of Parker jumping from rooftop to rooftop are night quite up to par. The special effects guys don't quite have a handle on showing real people going through uneven motions. The special effects hightlight of the movie has to be when the Green Goblin is in flight. The fluid motion of the effets and the life like movements make it a real treat.
All in all it was a very good comic book movie and well worth a look on video. B+
