Mad Max(1979)***1/2Groundbeaking Australian post apocolypse action movie from director George Miller. Staring Mel Gibson as Max who's goes after the killer's of his wife and kid. Followed by two sequels.
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome(1985)**Third in a series of Mad Max films staring Mel Gibson. Max roams into a Bartertown and quickly finds himself at odds with the dictator Tina Turner. Mel has to defend himself in a caged in arena with a character named Blaster. The film starts to drag in the second half with a gang of kids but speeds up with an exciting car chase at the end. Passable but disapointing George Miller adventure.
Man's Best Friend(1993)**1/2Lance Henrickson stars in this killer dog movie about a dog named Max 3000 who ocasionaly turns into a termination dog. Ally Sheedy also stars as the reporter who unknowingly takes home a vicsious monster
Mars Attacks(1996)*1/2Tim Burtons overbloated alien invasion spoof is worse than the films he was making fun of. Jack Nicolson, Glenn Close, Danny Devito, Natalie Portmanan an many others. Great effects and an alstar cast can't save this catasrophe.
The Man Who Fell to Earth(1976)*David Bowie stars in this totally depressing film about an alien who comes to earth in search of water for his dying planet. On Earth he becomes incredibly rich in the stock market and builds a rocket ship to get home. The governemnt in the end decides to study him and he becomes an alcoholic. A masterpiece to some?
Master of the World(1961)***Vincent Price stars as mad genious in this Jules Verne adventure. Similar to 20,000 leagues under the sea Price tries to stop war by destroying all means of war. Entertaining adventure also star Charles Bronson
Masters of the Universe(1987)*1/2Sorry adaption of the wonderful cartoon series stars Dolph Lundgren as He-Man who tries to recover the key to time in present day Earth. I guess it would have been to expensive to create a real He-man movie. I guess well have to keep waiting.
The Matrix(1999)****Spellbinding special effects movie staring Keanu Reeves as Neo a present day hacker who is told that the reality we come to beleive isn't actually real. Also that he is "the one" who is to save the human race. A complex script that leads the viewer into an alice in wonderland adventure is complemented by state of the art special effects. A real thrill ride.
The Maze**Extreamely weird tale of a man who goes to live in a Scottish castle to oversea the protection of a frog-man. His fiance goes to check on him and finds he is completely devoted to his job. Midly entertaining mystery
Megaville**Billy Zane stars in this futuristic anti-tv civilization movie.
Men in Black(1997)***Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones star as the title characters in this hightech sci-fi comedy. Its up to them to find a stolen miniture galxy or the Earth will be destroyed. In the Ghostbuster vein
Megaforce(1982)*Barry Bostwick stars as Ace Hunter in this ridiculous futuristic war movie directed by Hal Needham. It's a concoction of hightech gadgets and mock heroics. There's a group of special forces who have an underground buncker full of wepons of war. Theres a classic scene at the end where Ace flys into the back of a plane that sums the whole movie up. Full of silly dialogue and terrible one liners you have to like a healthy helping of cheese with your sci-fi to tolerate this one. Enjoy. With Michael Beck and Persis Khambatta.
