Abbott and Costello go to Mars(1953)*1/2The duo lands on Venus and finds it full of beautiful woman. Filled with slapstick and the usual Abbott and Costello humor, but doesn't have enough laughs to keep you interested. The story is typical of a low grade 50's sci-fi flick.
Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein(1948)****All the great horror stars show up here: Bela Lugosi as Dracula, Lon Chaney Jr. and the Wolfman and Vincent Price as the Invisible Man. Equally full of frights and laughs- along with a good story. The perfect horror-comedy.
Abbott and Costello meet the Invisible Man(1951) ***1/2Extremely funny horror spoof with the duo running into the Invisible Man. Top notch scenes include a prize fight with Bud and the classic scene where the Invisible Man is driving a car. Works as sci-fi and comedy.
Abomiinable Snowman of the Himalas, The(1957)***1/2Scary hammer adventure with Peter Cushing and Forest Tucker searching for the Snowman creature. Great scenery and amazing adventure put this up there with the Thing From Another World.
Abyss, The(1989)***1/2James Cameron's expansive underwater adventure certainly delivers the goods as far as adventure and special effects are concerned. Ed Harris and Mary Elizabeth mastrantonio lead a crew of underwater explores in a rescue attempt on a disabled sub and find themeselves face-to-face with deep sea aliens. The underwater adventure is full of non-stop scares and plenty of excitement.
Adieu, Galaxy Express***1/2Impressive japanese animated film about a boy who rides aboard an outerspace train called the galaxy express. First rate characters and visualls make for an unforgetable experiance.
Adventures of Baron Munchauson, The(1989)***John Neville stars in this expensive Terry Gilliam fatasy as the Baron who travels to the moon and goes on other wild adventures. The story really drags, but is worth seeing for the far out adventure and eye popping visuals. Uma Thurman and Robin Williams also star.
Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai across the Fifth
Dimension, The(1984)***1/2Classic cult movie about a team of odballs led by Peter Weller trying to stop a group of aliens who have just came through the fifth dimension. Fast paced adventure, full of great visuals and charming character moments. Ellen Barkin, Jeff Godblum, Christopher Lloyd, John Lithgow also star.
Adventures of Captain Zoom in Outerspace, The(1995)*Here's a movie for the Power Ranger lovers out there. The star of a super hero show is brought to a far away galaxy to fight evil. Well you guessed it, he's a wimp but has a heart of gold. Silly and boring. Ron Perman is messed up in this.
A.I.: Artificial Inteligence(2001)****First rate Steven Spielberg production staring Haley Joel Osment and Jude Law. Spielberg took over the project from the late Stanley Kubrik. This mastework beautifully embodies both the cold cerebral work of Kubriks 2001 and the fast paced sentimentality of Speilberg's E.T. and Close Encounters. Osment plays an android who is forced to leave his foster family and goes in search of a fairy who he hopes can turn him into a real boy. The film is one of the most hauntingly beautiful films ever made.
Akira(1988)****Landmark Japanese animated film set in 21st century Tokyo where a young boy learns to use his telekinetic abilities to the fullest. Extremly intelligent film that really takes off near the end.
Alien(1979)****Ridly Scott remade "It! The Terror From Beyond Space", spruced it up with some first class special effects and the end product: the greatest science fiction-horror movie ever made. Space minors led by Sigourny Weaver encounter an extraterestrial killing machine. A great script and amazing sets and effects make for an exhilarating experience. The great cast includes: Tom Skerritt, Ian Holm,Yaphet Kotto, Harry Dean Stanton, and Veronica Cartright.
Alien Nation: Dark Horizon(1994)***An Overseer discovers a virus that can kill "Slags"(Newcomers) and plans to spread it over the entire city. Eric Pierpoint and Gary Graham reprise their roles from the tv series and try and stop the genicide plan.
Alien Nation: Millennium(1996)**1/2All the regular cast returns in this descent tv movie followup to the great series. Gary Graham and Eric Pierpoint track down a device called the portal used to scam money out of unsuspecting humans. Works as an overlong tv episode.
Aliens(1986)****Dazzaling followup to Alien with returning star Sigourny Weaver as the alien killer. James Camerons follow-up to the Terminator is equalling thrilling that takes the viewer on a non-stop rollercoaster ride. And I mean non-stop! Michael Biehn, Bill Paxton Lance Henriksen shine as supporting characters.
Alien Resurection(1997)*1/2Extreamly dissapointing fourth chapter in the Alien series finds Ripley being resurected for company use. She of course does a little alien fighting. Sorry excuse for a horror film lacks any real scares, but instead relies to heavily on vast effects and sets. The end result is a boring chase through endless sets and dangers. Sigourny Weaver shines as usual, but Winona Ryder as an android seems out of place.
Aliens in the Wild Wild West(2000)*Silly tv movie about some kids who rescue a stranded alien who lost his mother. Absolutly pitiful.
Alien Within(1995)**Scott P. Leary directed this passable alien underwater story. Alien parasites infect members of the crew and take over their bodies. By the end of the movie basically everybody has been taken over. Despite a low budget and a tiresome idea the movie is never boring and there is a few scares. Roddy McDowell, Alex Hyde-White, Don Stroud and Melanie Shatner star.

Alligator People, The(1959)*Grade Z b-movie about a woman who serches for her lost husband and finds he has been transformed into an alligator man. Silly melorama stars Lon Chaney Jr.
Always(1989)**Richard Dreyfus and John Goodman star in this misguided remake by Steven Speilberg. Dreyfuss is killed in a plane crash and is sent back by Audrey Hepburn as a spirit. Well intended film but just never gets going.
Amazing Transparant Man, The(1960)*Terrible invisible man movie with a scientist turning a bank robber invisible. Characters totally unlikable as is plot.
American Cyborg: Steel Warrior(1994)***Good version of Terminator set 17 years after the apocaypse. Joe Laura takes on the Michael Beihn part, Nicole Hansen plays Linda Hamilton and John Ryan does his best Arnold Swartzanegger. Nicole (the last fertile woman on Earth) is trying to get her fetus in a tank to the ocean where it will be taken to safety. The futuristic world is well created and the pace is action packed from director Boaz Davidson. Excellent b-movie and a nice suprise.
An Americam Vampire Story(1997)**Interesting teen vampire movie set on the California coast. A group of vampire move into this teens house while his parents are away and try to take over the neighborhood. Serviciable characters and laughs make for a descent time killer
Android(1981)***Solid b-movie set abourd a space station. Klaus Kinski plays a mad scientist who creates an android named Max. Max accidentaly lets three criminals aboard and befriends one. Well told in good old b-movie tradition with ofcourse a great performace from Klaus Kinski.
Andromeda Strain, The(1971)***1/2Robert Wise's scary adaption of Michael Crichton's thriller novel. A group of sciencist are brought to an undergound vacility to find the cure for a deadly space virus that wiped out an entire town save for an old man and a baby. Totally believable with some great perfomances.
Angry Red Planet, The(1960)**Typical 50's b-movie with distinctive red tint when they arive on Mars.
Antz(1998)***1/2Superb computer animated film told from the point of view of ants. One of the worker ants rebels and sets out on his own. He learns of a plot to destroy his home and returns to save the day. The ability of the viewer to get into the characters is this fims greatest achievement.
Armegeddon(1998)**1/2Over the top astorid movie with an all star cast. A group of rag tag oil drillers led by Bruce Willis are recruited to destory an oncoming astroid. Its not so much a movie but an ongoing collection of special effects action scenes. Fun if you if you plenty of asparin on hand.
Army of Darkness(1993)***Sam Raimi's third Evill Dead movie once agian stars Bruce Cambell, who travel's back in time to fight some demons. Fun combination of horror and laughs with some great special effects.
Arrival, The(1996)***1/2Inteligent global warming story staring Charlie Sheen as an astonomer who discovers the plot of an alien takover. Great sci-fi in the X-Files tradition this film marks a great change of pace from the big budget brainless acion movies that so often grace this genre.
Astroid(1997)*1/2Plodding mini-series about an astroid on collision course with the Earth. Michael Beihn is the only highlight of this tedious effort
Attack of the Clones(2002)***1/2Spectactular sequel staring Natalie Portman, Han Christianson and Ewan Mcgregor, lacks the heart and story of the legendary trilogy, buts packs a whollup with its stunning effects and overall nonstop adventure. This time around the now twenty year old Anakin Skywalker forms a realationship with Padme Amidala, Senator from Naboo . The relationship is at the heart of the movie and sets up many plot points to come. Meanwhile Obi-Wan Kanobi is on the trail of a bounty hunter called Jango Fett. Lucas also sets in motion the Clone Wars and the creation of the Storm Troopers. Many great character moment's including a light saber yielding Yoda more than comensate a disapointing plot. Also staring Christopher Lee and Samual L. Jackson
Attack of the Fifty Foot Women(1958)*Silly movie has gained fame as one of the worst movies of all time. An abused wife is transformed into a fifty foot godzilla after her brief encounter with an alien space ship. It's totally ridiculous but is worth it for the laughs.
Attack of the Fifty Foot Women(1993)*Daryl Hannah star's in this meaningless remake. This time around it's even more stupid with little laughs. This tv movie also star Daniel Baldwin.
Automatic(1994)*1/2B-movie about a cyborg and a beautiful lady on the run from a hit squad. Starts off well but deteriorates into routine action.
