Explanation of the conversion:

New Mutants #16 History: Emma Frost was born in Boston, Massachusetts. She is a leading member of an old Boston mercantile family which arrived from England in the 1600s. She inherited a good deal of wealth, but most of her large fortune is the result of her business successes. She rose rapidly through the world of business thanks to her intelligence, drive, personal charm, and her secret use of her psionic abilities. She eventually became the majority stockholder of a multi-billion dollar conglomerate, which has been renamed Frost International after herself. Despite her youth, she is now a chairperson of the board of Frost International and its chief executive officer. Frost International is principally involved in transportation (both the building of ships and aircraft and their use for freight and passenger transport) and electronics. Emma Frost has also become chairperson of the board of trustees of the Massachusetts Academy, a college preparatory school for grades seven through twelve located in the Berkshire Mountains in Snow Valley, Massachusetts. Frost serves as the academy's headmistress and spends a great deal of her time there.

Emma Frost's beauty and talents brought her an invitation to join the Hellfire Club, an elite social organization of the world's wealthy and powerful figures. Frost became the ally of Sebastian Shaw who was a member of the Club's Council of the Chosen which secretly conspires to achieve world domination through economic and political means. Like Frost, Shaw was a mutant. The Leaders of the Club and Council, its foremost Lords Cardinal, were the White King Edward Buckman and the White Queen Paris Seville. (The Lords Cardinal are given titles corresponding to the names of chess pieces). Buckman threw the Council's support behind Project Armageddon which was scientist Steven Lang's program to build Sentinel robots and have them hunt down superhuman mutants). Knowing Shaw was himself a mutant Buckman told him that the Project was intended to capture superhuman mutants for use by the council in seeking power. However, Frost, through her psionic powers, learned that the Project was actually intended as a means of destroying all superhuman mutants. Together Shaw and Frost staged a coup that gave them control of the Council of the Chosen, which they renamed the Inner Circle. Shaw took the title of Black King and Frost became the new White Queen.

Under Shaw and Frost, the Inner Circle was dominated by superhuman mutants. Frost recruited young superhuman mutants and trained them in the use of their powers at her school so that they might use those powers on the Inner Circle's behalf. Most of these mutant students were members of a team called the Hellions.

Frost first encountered the team of mutants called the X-Men when she attempted to recruit young mutant Katherine "Kitty" Pryde for her school and captured a number of X-Men. Since then, Frost has crossed paths with the X-Men and their associates, the New Mutants, many times, often as their adversary.

The White Queen was among the villains recruited by Mister Bitterhorn into Mephisto's Legion Accursed. They were used in part of a plot to kill the Beyonder with Mephisto's Beyondersbane weapon, but were delayed by the Thing until the weapon melted down (Secret Wars II #7).

Emma also took a hand in trying to recruit Firestar into the Hellions, but Firestar escaped. This lead to a confrontation with the New Warriors over who would get her.

Later, the X-Men joined with the Hellions in order to protect the White Queen from a time-traveling attacker known as Trevor Fitzroy, but not before Fitzroy's brutal assault plunged Frost into a deep coma and brought about the untimely demise of each and every one of the Hellions. Frost's consciousness was apparently still active on the material plane and her body was kept in the Med-lab at the X-Men's mansion. Seeking to insure the welfare of her students and the future of the school, Frost foresightedly willed the care of the Academy to Professor Charles Xavier. It was during her psychic incapacitation that The Massachusetts Academy was legally added to the rapidly expanding Xavier Institute. While in the Med-lab an accident caused Frost to possess the body of the X-Man Iceman, and likewise, his mind was transferred into her body. Frost returned to her own body and when she fully recovered from the coma she resumed her role as headmistress of the academy. This time however she has been working with the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning and receives help from Sean Cassidy. He acts as the headmaster of this school designed to train a new set of mutants, who are known as Generation X.

She has taken care of the students, hopefully insuring that they will not die like her last students, the Hellions. However, she nearly was killed by Gene Nation, a group of Morlocks lead by Dark Beast. When he saw his old partner, Dark Beast was fascinated... and then detonated the room. Later, Emma had to save the children from Onslaught. The only way she could do that, was against their will. Telepathically taking control of their minds, she took them to her home in Canada, where she found the Toad.

Their troubles not yet done, Emma was captured by Black Tom Cassidy, the crazy cousin of Banshee. Her body taken over by Black Tom, Frost was forced to attack Banshee. Unable to let her students be harmed, she had Sean "kill" her with his sonic scream. Later, we found out that she was able to get him to knock her out, and then she just lowered her body functions to make Black Tom look like she was dead. Trying to find some clue to where the students were taken, Emma looked into Sean's mind, where she found a piece of history where a mutant island called Krokoa captured the X-Men in the middle of the sea. Black Tom's arrangement of fake students was identical to the one that the original X-Men were set in. Having not found the students at Krakoa's last known whereabouts, Emma and Sean set out to help the X-Men against Operation: Zero Tolerance. However, they were too late and sought out the one person who would have a link with M at all times: her brother Emplate. Emplate offered to tell them where the young mutants were in exchange for Penance. Banshee refused, but Emma told him that they should do it. When Banshee refused again, Emma psiblasted him and continued the deal. Banshee woke up and took Penance with him telling the White Queen to never return to the Academy again. Emma didn't listen and returned to the Academy, where her students just happened to be. When Banshee returned from his visit to Muir Island, Emma punched him.

More recently, Frost International lost major revenue in the stock market, and Frost turned to her sister, Adrienne, for financial help. Adrienne agreed, but only on the condition that she be made one of the headmasters at the Academy. Emma was later betrayed by Adrienne, who not only took Emma`s place as White Queen of the Hellfire Club but also ultimately destroyed the Academy and left one of its students, Synch, dead. In final battle, Emma killed her sister, which also allowed her to gain her sister's inheritance.

With the Massachusetts Academy destroyed, Generation X lingered for a few months but was ultimately dissolved as its members went their own ways. Frost traveled to the island state of Genosha, whose large mutant population was experiencing political turmoil after its leader, Magneto, was taken down by the X-Men. Frost became a teacher for the mutant children, until a Sentinel attack decimated the population.

Believed dead, Frost survived due to the manifestation of her new mutant powers. She joined the X-Men in relief efforts before returning with them to their New York headquarters, where she remains a member of the team and continues to teach other mutant children at Xavier's new school for young mutants.

White Queen from the Generation X Movie Note: In the 1996 Generation X movie the part of the White Queen was played by Finola Hughes.

Note: In the alternate time line depicted in New Warriors #11 to #13 Emma was a member of the mutant underground lead by Magneto and was his consort.

Powers: The White Queen is a mutant with various telepathic abilities. She can read minds and project her thoughts into the minds of others. The White Queen can project psionic force bolts which have no physical effects but which can affect a victim's mind so as to cause the victim pain or unconsciousness. She can also induce mental pain merely by touching the brow of her victim. The White Queen can telepathically sedate her victims so that, if already rendered unconscious, they remain so for as long as she continues to sedate them. It is unknown how effective her sedating ability is on victims who are awake.

More recently, Frost has exhibited a new power-- the ability to bodily transform into a diamond-like, semi-transparent form that makes her nearly invulnerable to most forms of injury. Apparently, Frost cannot use her telepathic abilities while transformed.
