Explanation of the conversion:

History: Henry McCoy was born in Dunfee, Illinois to Edna and Norton McCoy. Norton worked at a nuclear power plant where he was exposed to massive amounts of radiation during an accident. Norton was unharmed, but the radiation affected his genes, and as a result his son Henry was born a mutant. Unlike most superhuman mutants, Henry showed signs of mutation from birth: unusually large hands and feet.

Thanks to his superhuman agility, strength, and speed, Henry became a star football player as a teenager. His remarkable athletic abilities attracted the notice of both Professor Charles Xavier, who was forming the original X-Men, and a costumed criminal named El Conquistador. The Conquistador captured McCoy's parents in order to force McCoy to aid him in his criminal schemes. However, with the help of Xavier and the X-Men, Henry defeated the Conquistador, and he then joined the X-Men, taking the code name Beast.

X-Men #1 A brilliant student, McCoy completed his doctoral studies under Xavier's tutelage, and finally left the X-Men and Xavier's school to take a position as a genetic researcher with the Brand Corporation. There he developed a serum that acted as a catalyst for activating latent mutations. On drinking the serum McCoy underwent radical physical changes. He grew fur over his entire body, his ears became larger and pointed, and his canine teeth became larger, resembling fangs. The serum also further increased his superhuman agility, endurance, speed, and strength (Amazing Adventures #15).

Eventually, McCoy left Brand, joined the Avengers, and publicly revealed his dual identity (Avengers #137).

Incredible Hulk #279 Once it was established that Bruce Banner's mind was in control of the Hulk's body, the Hulk was treated to a celebration in New York City where he received a presidential pardon from Ronald Reagan, the key to the city, and praise from a number of superheroes, including the Beast (Incredible Hulk #279).

After years of service with the Avengers, during which he also aided the X-Men against Dark Phoenix, the Beast took it upon himself to reorganize another super-hero group, the Defenders, into a more formal combat organization (Defenders #125).

His X-Men cohorts Angel II and Iceman served in the Defenders along with him, but the team collapsed after a climactic battle in which several other members seemingly perished (Defenders #152).

Subsequently, the Beast and his fellow members of the original X-Men formed a new organization, the original X-Factor, which publicly appeared to hunt down allegedly dangerous mutants but secretly taught them how to use their superhuman abilities (X-Factor #1).

Shortly after the formation of X-Factor, the Beast was captured by the geneticist Dr. Carl Maddicks, who performed an experiment that caused the Beast to revert to his original, more human appearance (X-Factor #2-3).

Everything was fine until he was touched by Pestilance, one of the Horsemen of Apocalypse. In fighting off her disease causing touch he immune system was hyper accelerated, causing him to increase in strength but limiting his intelligence whenever he exerted himself. Some time later, however, the mutagenic powers of the mutant Infectia triggered the Beast's return to his furry, more animalistic appearance and restored his intelligence (X-Factor #33).

After Professor Charles Xavier returned to Earth following an extended period in outer space with the Starjammers, the Beast and his fellow X-Factor founders returned to the X-Men (X-Men II #1).

Avengers III #1 While serving with them he has spent a large amount of time researching a cure for the Legacy virus.

Beast was among the members of the Avengers who were captured by Morgan Le Fay and mind controlled into becoming her personal guard, the Queen's Vengeance. While under her control he went by the name Kreature. He was eventually freed and helped defeat her (Avengers III #2-3).

Henry helped diagnose the power loss of his fellow Avenger, Carol Danvers, and helped her pick her new name Warbird (Avengers #4).

Professor X, the Beast, Wolverine, Phoenix IV and Cyclops have re-opened Xavier's school, now called Xavier's Institute of Higher Learning, to the mutant population at large, training and educating new students to help them cope with their powers. Summers now helps to educate and train dozens of young mutants, many severely disfigured or requiring specialized training and technology.

Note: In the alternate time line depicted in New Warriors #11 to #13 Hank was a member of the mutant underground lead by Magneto.

The Beast Note: The character of the Beast appeared in the X-Men television series.

Trivia: Hank earned the nickname Beast while playing high school football.

Powers: Hank has superhuman agility, endurance, speed, and strength. His top running speed is over 100 mph and he can lift at least 10 tons.
