Asylum Contests
URL Frenzy

This contest ran from 2/1/99 to about 4/1/99. It is no longer running.

Oh, my God. Run! Run for your lives! You've guessed it. It's time. It's another Asylum contest! Please read this whole post before deciding to play.

* * *

Let me first say:
This contest is eligible to *anyone* -- not just Asylum members. This contest works on a points system. Asylum members will receive ten (10) extra points simply because they are members.

* * *

The Prize:
A Methos mouse pad signed by Peter Wingfield. It was personally autographed by Peter on the Highlander Cruise (November 1999). It reads "Congratulations and Best Wishes. Peter Wingfield". The photo on the mouse pad is a frontal of Methos's face from the episode "Deliverance".

The Game-plan:
One -- and only one -- lucky winner will receive a Methos mouse pad signed by Peter Wingfield. How will this winner be determined? It's simple. Send me your Methos URLs: all of them. Got 50? Good. Got 100? Better. Got 1000? You'll probably win. Got milk? Just kidding.

The Rules:

1) Anyone may participate. This contest is NOT limited to Asylum patients.

2) One point will be awarded per URL.

3) If you are a member of the Asylum, you MUST include your padded cell number along with your submission, or you will not receive the extra ten (10) points. If you are in the process of joining, wait until you receive your cell number before submitting; do not guess the number you think you will get.

4) All URLs must be in the form of ONE email, or you will be disqualified. You are allowed only one email per person. This also means if you have more than one email address, you should only submit your URLs using one of those addresses.

5) Only the main page of a site will be counted. For example, if you send two URLs and one reads http://www.methos.gov and the other reads http://www.methos.gov/pictures, you will only receive one point because the second URL is a subdirectory of the first. The only time this will be ignored is if both sites are in no way connected to each other besides both being dedicated to Methos.

6) All web sites must be Methos specific. This means that the site must be at least 80% dedicated to Methos. Sites dedicated to Peter Wingfield DO NOT count. All submitted sites must be at least 80% dedicated to Methos, the 5000 year-old Immortal on Highlander, or they will NOT be counted.

7) You will need a verifiable home or physical address where the prize can be sent to you if you win.

8) Your submission must be formatted as follows:

Email address
Cell number (if applicable)
Name

#) URL

For example:
jamwired@aol.com
PC#1
jam-wired

1) http://www.methos.net
2) http://www.methos.edu
3) http://www.methos.gov

When writing the URLs, please write the http:// at the beginning of the URL.

9) You may not collaborate with anyone on this contest. If I receive two or more submissions that are exactly or almost exactly alike, you will be disqualified.

10) All emails are due in to clan_contest@hotmail.com by April 1, 2000. Any submission received after this date will be disregarded. Any submission sent to any other email address besides clan_contest@hotmail.com will also be disregarded. Please use the subject title "URL Contest Submission" for the email you send.

Important Notes:
The winner will be contacted personally, announced at the Asylum's contest page, announced over the Asylum announcement mail list, and possibly announced on various Methos-related mail lists or forums.

All questions during the contest should be directed to jamwired@aol.com and NOT clan_contest@hotmail.com.

URLs to fanfiction archives or homepages are acceptable as long as the stories there are 80% Methos. A site like Seventh Dimension would NOT qualify -- which is a complete Highlander fanfiction archive and not geared towards Methos alone.

Don't worry too much about the math of a site being 80% dedicated to Methos. If you think a site is slightly under (or even more than slightly), send it just in case. An example of a site that would NOT qualify would be the DOBC -- which is dedicated to ALL the men of Highlander. An example of a site that WOULD qualify would be the MacMINT Asylum.

The Asylum may count for one (1) point if submitted with your URLs.

Broken links (URLs that no longer work) DO NOT count -- even if they are only under construction, and the site will be working again in a few weeks.

Message boards dedicated to Methos DO count.

Because there may be a lot of participants, scoring could take a long while. Please don't bother me if a few months after the contest is over, a winner still hasn't been announced. I make no profit from this, and I am working alone.

Since you've read this whole statement, you get two (2) extra points. When you send your submission in, copy and paste this last paragraph into the first line of your submission. I will add the points to your score. If you're an Asylum member, you already have 12 points!

The winner of the fourth Asylum contest was Zzickle (PC#52), winning with 197 points. Other noteworthy scores: Kassain (PC#145) with 187 points, Dea (PC#144) with 171 points, Analise (PC#59) with 154 points, Kadira (PC#102) with 140 points and Canadian Girl (PC#91) with 114 points.
