Hopefully you have an understanding of how mathematics and history have a part in science.  Also I hope you realize the importance of measurement in our world.  Whenever a country exchanges goods with the United States, we must convert between the metric system and the US/English System.  In the United States, the metric system will someday be the rule of the land.  Congress passed legislation back in 1975 to move the US towards adopting the metric system.  Since that time, many initiatives have come and gone, many without any success.  After this activity you should be able to decide for yourself if you think the metric system is the way to go.
