Basic Playing Information

Amtgard begins by creating a character-
a "Persona".

You can be from a Historical or Mythical time, a Fantasy or Sci-fi genre.

Amtgard suggests that you don't portray an actual historic figure,
but some one from that time and space!

Imagine a brief history for your new self-

Where was he or she born?

Why are they at Wyrmhill?

Are they good or evil or just neutral?

Next comes deciding what fighter class you will play-
or
if you are not interested in battle ,

become a color, a page --or help cook-

if you like rules and regulations , become a reeve

("referree" -we need good reeves!)

A Little About the Classes

There are 15 standard Classes,

-each with specific abilities, and traits-

As you read -
you can chose to either reach out and expand your own personality

-or-
even more fun-

play a character opposite your norm!

You can play as many Classes as you like, but only one per event-

When you go to your first meeting, there is usually loaner garb available and loaner weapons.

If you decide to join, you will be expected to come up with your own in about a month.

Each class wears a 2 inch wide sash diagonally from shoulder to waist in a set color-

-for instance a Warrior wears a purple sash ,

while a Bard will wear a light blue sash and and must carry a musical instrument!

Our weapons are made with safety in mind-

and must be inspected before each battle by the Shire Champion

They have either a PVC or graphite center and are then padded to a size that will not take out an eye.

Weapons can have special attributes

or even be ensorcelled. This is indicated by specific color ribbons tied to them.

This is a good basic explanation.

Essentially you earn points for attendence and skills

demonstrated in Tourney and Battle-

There are qualifying events held at every level from the Shire on up-

as you rise in level in your Class,

you can aquire protection points, based on level and armour, etc.

Amtgard is an honor based system- participants are expected to "take their hits"

and to teach others by example

the higher you rise in Amtgard the more visable you become.
