The Doctor Who Autograph Collectors Club's First In-person Signing CAROLINE MUNRO Saturday 13th September 2003
After several months of planning and a few last minute hitches (accommodation falling through, not to mention my kitchen roof, but that's another story!), the big day of the DWACC's first in-person signing finally arrived. It was great to see Caroline Munro again as I met her, Jayne and the children at Darwen train station. We made our way to the Darwen Library Theatre and as they had some breakfast I began to set up shop. Amazingly, several people arrived even before Caroline had finished putting up her display of photos, posters and, of course, that all important Doctor Who CD Omega, the reason for the signing. After a bit of running around to do some price lists on the computer the day finally settled down and I let things take its natural course.
It was great to see so many people turning up to meet her in the morning; I was very pleased indeed. It was also great to meet a few DWACC members too! I already knew Jonathan Mallinson and Dave Mullen, but it was nice to put a few faces to a few names - hi to Andy Kitching, Chris Armstrong and Stephen Miles! So glad you could make it and I hope you enjoyed the day; judging by your comments you did and, of course, you got to get that autograph you wanted of one of Doctor Who's latest stars! Caroline enjoyed herself and got to meet many familiar faces. She was never on her own, there was always someone there wanting to chat, get a photo and an autograph. She sold a number of Omega CD's but the majority of people were more interested in her Bond connections (see Bond publicity picture below right). Of course, that was no problem at all.
The afternoon could have been a bit busier but, as I say, she was never on her own and she was very happy with the way the day had gone, so that's the most important thing. At the end of the day we had a quick chat about Doctor Who and she informed me that she grew up with William Hartnell as her Doctor and that in the 1980's her husband had designed the Sil costume for Vengeance on Varos! Small world! She also signed four copies of the Omega CD, undedicated, as a donation towards next years charity auction, which I thought was very kind of her. There was one final twist in the tale as her train home was cancelled and I had to get them a taxi to take them to Bolton train station so they could get to Manchester Piccadilly to catch their London connection on time! All good fun! It was a great day, enjoyed by all and thanks to everyone for
coming. Maybe this could just be the start of things! Graham Groom
