Raised in the Death Valley, CA, Daniel Chavez attended Oklahoma Sate University where he
earned a B.A. in Engineering in 1975. From there he flew to the University of Longston and
Washington State University, completing the Master's program in Chemical Engineering. After
that, he took a train to the University of Omaha where he earned a Ph.D. in Food Engineering. He
worked for 20-years as Chief Engineer and Chief Chef for Lone Star Mining in Amarillo, Texas. Many years of dust-bowl conditions drove him back to Washington where his love for dinosaurs and donuts fueled a passion for science-fiction. He is writing a book on the effects chemically engineered donuts had on the dinosaurs. For relaxation, he swims laps in the hot-tub he designed into the shape of huge potato.
