The New Earth Science Course Description

Welcome to Earth Science! A traditional Earth Science course would cover topics in Earth Science such as atmosphere, weather, rocks and minerals, volcanoes, earthquakes, Earth-Sun-Moon systems, and fossils. The traditional style would include teacher directed instruction and students learning content to repeat back on the tests. However, this course has been redesigned. The same Earth Science topic areas will be addressed, but the style of teaching and learning will be different. Students will be engaged in project based, problem solving learning. The teacher will be the facilitator of the student's learning. Each unit will contain at least one relevant problem from a real-life scenario posed for students to work together to find a suitable solution. The problem scenario will challenge and engage the students. Students will be required to display what they have learned, to show what they know, in a presentation of their solution to the problem. Please see the web site "Exploring the Environment" for a more detailed explanation of this learning style and a scenario example. http://www.cotf.edu/ete/teacher/teacherout.html
