Goliath Is My Name

At the aliens cavern, Advocate Xana informs some alien soldiers of their mission. They must make their way to Ohio Polytech to retrieve the lethal Y Fever virus. Xana hands them a map that was given to them by intelligence that will help them to complete their infiltration. She advises them to travel through the service tunnels that criss-cross underneath the campus. Xana tells them to persevere and that hopefully, when the Y Fever is in their hands the entire North American continent will be rid of all human life.

At Ohio Polytech, a group of college kids are partying as the aliens- who look at the partying humans with a confused look- make their way through the partygoers. Meanwhile, a group of college students who are playing a type of laser-tag like game called "Asteroids and Aliens" make their way into the service tunnels. At the same time, the aliens travel through the service tunnels. The student players split up and one of the players- Robert Parkins- makes the mistake of approaching an alien. The alien effortlessly rips Parkins' cheek off.

Back at the Cottage, Norton tells Harrison that for the sanity of the team, he better work things out with Suzanne. He says that she is crying in her lab and not talking about it with anyone. Harrison approaches Suzanne and learns she is actually crying because her friend, Robert Parkins- is missing. She worries that the disappearance could stem from the fact that Parkins was going to expose the secret that Suzanne's ex lab partner was giving the Y Fever to the government. Norton intercepts a report about Parkins whose face had been torn off in the tunnels. Ironhorse, reluctantly allows Harrison and Suzanne to probe into the matter. Meanwhile, the aliens are lost in the tunnels due to faulty directions by intelligence. A football player named Jefferson joins the college students to get even with a rival group of college game players- because they think that they kidnapped Parkins as a prank. The rival team make their way through the tunnels too. Jefferson encounters the alien who mutilated Parkins, and Jefferson is possessed. Meanwhile, the rival game players have their bodies taken over by the other aliens.

Authorities at the college are tight-lipped regarding the Parkins case. They don't want the facts to be released because it could instill horror and panic through the students on campus. Jefferson and the other aliens storm the campus lab, and Jefferson retrieves the Y Fever but accidently drops a vial on the floor of the sealed lab. He is momentarily shaken up, but walks out, while Suzanne's ex lab partner dies in the lab. The team arrive moments later and Suzanne notices that not only is her ex lab partner dead but there were three vials of Y Fever in the receptacle. The other two have been stolen.

At the campus, Jefferson begins to act irrationally and deserts his alien comrades. An alien soldier reports this new dilemma to the Advocacy. The Advocates explain to him that they must find Jefferson and bring the Y Fever to them. They also tell the soldier to not return to the cavern without it. While the aliens search frantically for Jefferson, Norton sits behind his computer extremely bored- waiting for a call from Harrison and Suzanne. He tells Harrison that Robert Parkins was a fantasy game player. "What the hell is that? Some sort of swinger?" asks Ironhorse (one of my favorite WOTW lines). Jefferson meets up with his fellow players in the game, and at this point Jefferson has forgotten his alien identity- and is obsessively immersed in the game.

Guided by Norton, the team travels through the tunnels. Norton tells them of a transmission at the campus and after viewing a body there, the team realize that they have stumbled across a hive of aliens. Some aliens make their way through the tunnel and Ironhorse kills them, but not finding the Y-Fever virus anywhere.

Harrison makes his way to Jefferson- who has rounded up all the other players- and taken them to the tunnels. Harrison (a former "Planetmaster" at this game) gets into the game and asks for a truce. He then lures Jefferson to chase him back into the lab where Suzanne seals Jefferson in. In a rage, Jefferson throws the vials of Y Fever and the team destroy Jefferson from inside. The alien soldier reports to a displeased Advocacy that he was the only survivor and that the Y Fever toxin was destroyed. The Advocacy tells him that he must meet his obligation- and order for him to be executed. The trinity vow that someday they will win this war.

COMMENTS: I like this episode, although at some points, I felt the episode plodded along. Ironhorse really had some killer lines though in this episode. From his "swingers" quip to his crack about Harrison's tuning fork- I think Ironhorse was a scene stealer. I also enjoyed Norton's humor in this episode. His irritation with being neglected really made for great lines. I especially liked his sarcasm with Debi. This was George Bloomfield's first directorial effort for the show and he did a very admirable job. I think the best visuals were in the opening with the aliens moving about the cavern as we see the horrific images on the news. Bloomfield would direct many more episodes during the first season.
