Oyuki Mamisha toyed nervously with her wristwatch. The traffic seemed so heavy for the mid afternoon. They needed to get to the hospital. Or wherever. The silence inside the Limo was enough to make her scream. Although it had only been quiet for a few minutes, it seemed like hours. Every few seconds the Senator would clear his throat as if to say something, but sometimes even a big politician doesn’t know what to say in really strange situations. And this definitely counted as a strange situation. Oyuki lifter her head and smiled at him. “Thank you again.” The Senator gave back a nervous smile. “It is my pleasure.” He turned around towards the front of the limo. “Simmons, can we get there any faster?” The man who had been peering into the rearview mirror throughout the ride looked back again. “I’m trying sir.” He glanced at his passengers. “Believe me sir, I’m trying.” Oyuki sighed once again at the traffic. It seemed like they were not even moving. She needed to be there. With him… Don’t you go and die on me, Mikey. The Senator wished they would talk. He tried not to look afraid but the truth of the matter was they were making him uncomfortable with their silence. But he could tell they were uncomfortable as well. They obviously were not used to staying in such close corners with strangers. The traffic wasn’t helping. The press already knew what was going on and he didn’t want to give these poor guys more publicity. It was obvious they didn’t want it. But desperate times call for desperate measures… He picked up the phone. “Yes hello. This is Senator Grey. Yes, hello to you too. I need to speak to Sergeant Adams please, Yes please.” Tess sat quietly in the car, slightly fidgeting with her hands. She felt out of place, and the fact that the New York City’s spotlight had been on her and her friends had not helped matters at all. She only hoped her parents did not see the news tonight, But her dad was a news buff and the chance of that happening was slight. She raised her eyes to observe the other passengers in the car. All of them were obviously nervous and upset. Raph looked like he was on the brink of an explosion, an observation that the senator was making as well. Don’s face was unreadable. He seemed deep in thought and observant to the current situation all at once. Next sat Hiroshi. It was apparent that he felt truly responsible for Michaelangelo’s condition and unnerved at his brother’s. Every once and a while, he would glance in Splinter’s direction with confusion written on his face. Splinter seemed strangely calm, but deep in his eyes worry lingered. She looked lastly to Leonardo, sitting next to her. He was attempting to mask the apprehension he was feeling as well, but not doing as well of a job as his sensei. She put her hand on his lightly to console him. He responded with a small smile. Michaelangelo walked openly on the street. People waved as he passed. “Hi Mike!” “Hey Mikey, how’s it hanging?” Mike apparently knew them all, though he didn’t remember where or how. But they were all close friends of his. He smiled and waved back to them. He felt so loved; his life could not be any better. All of a sudden a girl stopped to talk to him. “Hey Mike.” “Hello Beth!” He didn’t remember how he met Beth, but he knew he recognized her from somewhere. “So, have you decided yet?” “Decided what?” Mike turned to her, confused. “Oh, they didn’t tell you?” “Who?” “The Head Honcho’s assistants.” “Leo?” “No silly, you know what I mean.” Mike shook his head. This made absolutely no sense whatsoever. “Tell me what?” “They really didn’t tell you that you had a choice?” “A choice in what?” “Whether you want to stay or go.” Senator Grey exhaled a sigh of relief as the police escort arrived. Thanks you Adams, I really do owe you a favor. The sirens and lights surrounded the car. Raphael felt as though he was going to explode. Strange people surrounded him. And as if they were not already the center of the city’s attention at this point, the loud escort made it seemingly more so. This senator seemed like an alright guy, but who knew? Who knew with any people? They made no sense. The limousine picked up speed after the arrival of the police escort. Raph closed his eyes for a second. He tried to focus on why they had accepted this ride with this human. Mike. Within a few minutes the Limousine screeched to a halt. The senator jumped out of the car, then turned awkwardly to his companions who were nervous to be back out in the sunlight. “Are you coming, your brother is this way.” Finally, they shuffled out carefully. “University Hospital?” Well, a back alley of it anyway. “Yes, that is where your friend is located at uhm…” “Raphael.” “Ah, yes.” “Let us go inside. I do believe we should waste time or luck out here in the broad daylight.” Splinter spoke quietly, but all listened. They shuffled into the back of the hospital, where more strangers greeted them all. “Please, this way.” “Excuse me, but do you have a more…discreet route?” “Uhm, yes I’m sorry. Right this way please.” They took the back elevators, silently, all still lost in though, yet overly alert at the same time. When they reached the top, they were greeted by a quiet, empty hall. A man peeked around the corner, then approached the group. He had obviously been told to be prepared for what he was going to see, but a huge ‘gulp’ gave away his true feelings. All eyes were on him as he began to speak. “Hello Jeremy. I am glad to see you have brought my patient’s friends.” Although his face looked happy, there was a bit of sadness behind his words. The one in the head of the group smiled a bit at old college roommate. He turned to around to those behind him. “This is my old college friend, Dr. Franklin Afortt. He is the, ahem, specialist I called for.” “I am not a specialist. I just could not decide whether I wanted to be a physician or a marine biologist after my bachelor’s degree. So I obtained them both. It took me a while, but I wasn’t ready to live in the real world and decided to live off of my father’s money for as long as possible.” Donatello listened carefully. “That’s—“ “That’s great, really,” Raph broke in. “Where’s Mike?” Leonardo rolled his eyes at his own brother’s comments, but soon became worried as he saw the expression on the doctor’s face fall after Raph’s question. “I have him stable. There seems to be some sort of problem, though?” Raphael stepped towards him. “What?” “He seems to be in a comatose state. Tests show that he did hit his head pretty hard on impact. But that is the only problem.” “The ONLY PROBLEM??” Raph looked about ready to lose it again. “Raphael, please. Let him speak.” The old rat looked back at the doctor. The doctor spoke slowly. “I don’t know how long he will be like this. It could be tomorrow or it could be forever.” They exchanged glances back and forth as his words sunk in. Oyuki stood there silently in shock. And Raphael took off down the hall so that the others would not see his tears. Chapter 12 coming soon
