Winter tides is more along the lines of his other book Night Relics, a disturbing ghost story with a whacko phsychotic thrown in for good fun. I liked this book more than Night Relics, it had a more streamlined plot and the characters were more interesting. Not Andrew Vanbergen or William Hastings eccentric, but quirky enough to keep the story moving along.
