Agent Dana Scully

Agent Dana Scully (portrayed by actress Gillian Anderson) has, together with Agent Mulder, provided the life of The X-Files. Long known as a critical and rational opinion often in conflict with Mulder's usually outlandish views, Scully has grown from viewing her partner's ideas with suspicion and outright disbelief to trying to find out if they are true to accepting some od the things she has seen as real even if she cannot explain them. With Mulder gone for no one knows how long she entered the series' eighth season carrying on his beliefs in the unknown, a change that, though seemingly out of character at first, was a welcome contrast to the by-the-book attitudes of her new partner, Agent Doggett. The contrast, indeed, shows how much Scully's character has developed since she was first introduced to the world via the series' pilot epsiode.

Scully's primary training is as a medical doctor, and as such she is often called upon to examine corpses and carry out autopsies. She has had plenty of chances to do both, and has shown her own sense of humor int he process. Recall the epsiode "Bad Blood" where she was examining a corpse's stomach contents and found pizza; cracking her neck, the agent remarks half to herself: "Pizza -- that sounds good right about now."

Though she is no push over, Scully has fallen into quite a few situations now and then, including the scene in "Irresistible" where she is kidnapped by serial killer Donnie Pfaster, and her abduction by Duane Barry. But through it all she has shown herself to be an FBI agent of quality. Characters such as herself are few and far between on network television.

Dana Scully was seemingly infected with cancer during her abduction, though it has since grown to be in remission.

She has a brother, Bill Scully, and her mother is alive and well. A mysterious young girl that was supposedly her daughter, Emily, died of complications from experiments done on her. Scully's father is also deceased.

And though the experiments done on her during her abduction supposedly rendered her unable to have children, Dana Scully ended the show's Seventh Season by revealing, after Mulder's abduction, that she was Pregnant. How and why did this happen? Is the child Mulder's -- whose is it? What will this mean? Only time will tell...
