Chapter Nine

My arm wasn't bleeding anymore, but that wasn't what I was worried about.

"Oh my damn I could never do that again. Never." Brooke said between sobs.

"That was horrible, I can't believe that I did that." Christopher said shaking his head.

"One alien was calling for its mother." I said with tears welling up in my eyes.

"I never knew that killing would be like this." Phoenix said, even her eyes where threatening to tear up.

"I know, TV makes it seam so cool, fun even. But they never say anything about the emptiness, the hollowness." Christopher said, his eyes where dark, and so far off.

"The feeling of being so unbelievably dirty." I said, recalling the fact that I felt like I needed a shower, one that still would not make me feel any cleaner.

"And the eyes, and the terrible cries." I said quivering, at the thought, or memory.

"That look in the eyes the person before they die, hate, and that look that pleads. Not now, not here.'" Brooke said shaking her head, and just crying.

"That feeling you get, deep in you stomach, the knot that makes you feel like you're gonna

explode." Christopher said, and I had the sudden erg to throw-up.

"Well this isn't any TV show. Reality check, this is real life, and people die, parents split up, and people get picked on. You just have to stand up for what you believe in, and I believe that if we have to kill aliens to save our plant, then aliens are going to die." Phoenix said with that cool, calm voice that she gets whenever she is really pissed off.

"Yeah? Well I don't want to kill any more." Brooke said clenching her fists.

"No one wants to kill, but we have a responsibility, to save this world, and it's people. We can't give up. And we'll try to find ways around fight, and killing." I said, sighing and shaking my

Head, and this battle was still fresh in my mind.

"And fighting will happen, and killing will happen."

Phoenix interjected, as she stood up and started to pace back and forth.

"It will be okay Brooke," I said as I walked over to her and hugged her. "Let's take a brake, everyone go home. Try to get this out of your minds, if that is at all possible. I'll see you

tomorrow, we'll see what we do next then." I said finally.

I headed up the stairs, and let myself out the front door.

"Ryan?" Brooke said as she walked up next to me.

"Yeah?" I replied.

"Thanks." She replied.

"For what?" I asked.

"Just for understanding what I was saying." She said stopping me and hugging me.

"You're not going to change my mind." I said.

"I know," she replied. "But see I guess that I think that if it will save my family, from becoming slaves, then, so be it." She said looking me in the eyes.

"You be careful." I said.

"You too, leader." She said with a slight smile.

"Now I'm the leader?" I asked shaking my head.

"Yes." She replied.

"Well the leader is going home to take a nice long shower." I said stepping into my house. And closing the door.
