Chapter Six
On the way to lunch Christopher and I passed our friends, Josh, Kevin, A.J., Brian, J.C. Tim, and Howe.
"Yo! Yo! Homie wassup?!" A.J. yelled.
"Yo! Dude!" I yelled as I gave him a high five.
"You homies want to go to the mall after school?" J.C. asked.
"Nah. Man we got stuff ta does." Christopher said with a sigh.
"No problemo! We see you in the lunch line!" Josh said with a slight wave.
We walked into the lunch room and got in line. Josh, Brian, and Howe were in front of me, and Christopher was behind me. Phoenix was behind Christopher, and behind Phoenix was
Bernadette.
"Chris!" Bernadette yelped as she pushed Phoenix out of line. "What luck meeting you here!" She said with a smile.
"Not my luck." Christopher said under his breath.
"Hey Bernadette! I was in line first!" Phoenix said with her arms crossed and glaring.
"Oh sorry, but you know how it is with a boyfriend." Bernadette said smiling a very cheesy smile.
"I'm not your boy friend!" Christopher yelled his eyes bugging out of his head.
"Christopher got a girlfriend!" Yelled Josh, Brian, and Howe as they all gave each other high fives.
We got our nasty food and snuck around the cafeteria to avoid Bernadette.
We sat at a table at which we usually don't sit. Christopher and I usually sit at the cool guys' table and Phoenix and Brooke sit at the cool girls' table.
Bernadette's clique is the really cool girls' group.
So we sat and ate the so-called mac and cheese, with hot dogs in it.
I'm not convinced.
It wasn't yellow, or white, this was orange! I don't really want to know what's up with the fuzzy green stuff.
But then Bernadette plunked down next to Christopher.
"Hey Chris! You know that there's a school dance on the thirtieth!"
"I guess I know, but maybe I think I . . . " Christopher trailed off as he blushed.
"Well I wanted to know if you would like to go with me?" Bernadette asked Christopher.
"Oh! Well . . . I . . . Uhhh . . . See I sort of was going to . . . You uh . . . Yeah . . . "
Christopher stopped and scooted his chair away from Bernadette. The chair on the floor made a loud sound, "scree!"
"Well do you?" Bernadette pressured, leaning closer to Christopher. Which then caused
Christopher to scoot over more.
"Do you?!" She yelled.
"I, I, I . . . " Christopher stopped and scooted even farther away.
"Would you stop moving and answer me?!" Bernadette said her eye getting red.
Christopher continued to scoot over to the next table. Bernadette scooted after him!
Christopher ended up getting up and running all over the cafeteria, Bernadette close behind.
He ran over and ducked under our table, and Bernadette ran right into Michael!
"Bernadette!" Michael yelled as he blushed.
"Oh sorry!" She said looking up at him and blushing. He then helped her to her feet.
"I want to know, if you would like to go to the dance with me?" Michael asked Bernadette.
"I guess, sure why not!" Bernadette said, her face brightening.
"Is she gone?" Christopher asked from under the table.
"Yeah, but I'm wearing a skirt, so can you come out now?" Phoenix replied with a laugh.
"Sorry!" Christopher yelped, as he got out from under the table with one red face.
"About this dance, you want to go with me Brooke?" I asked hopefully.
"Sure, Ryan, but why are you asking me? ." She replied with a smile.
"Okay, so if Brooke goes with me then, well I think that Christopher, you should take
Phoenix!"
I said getting very excited.
"No way!" Christopher yelled.
"Okay. Fine. I see I have to get rough!" I yelled.
"Brooke and I are going to the dance regardless, and Christopher, you are taking Phoenix.
I said making myself very clear.
"I am?" Christopher asked with one of those faces, oh you know what I mean!
"You are." I replied very confidently of what I was saying.
Then we all turned back to our lunch.
"What happened last night was real." Phoenix said suddenly, "and I think that we should go back after school."
"What!" I yelled this time my eyes bugged out.
"We are just kids!" Christopher yelled.
"And you point being?" Phoenix said flatly.
"I don't know, I think maybe Phoenix has a point." Brooke said, not bothering looking up from her ooze.
"So you're saying that we should save the world?" I said, not believing she could say such a thing.
"Okay, fine. We check it out again to day." I said finally agreeing.
"See you later!" Phoenix said as she stood up and left for her next class.
Brooke left a few minutes later, leaving Christopher and I alone.
"Why did you do that?!" Christopher said suddenly.
"Do what?" I asked puzzled.
"Tell me that I was taking Phoenix to the dance!" He yelled at me smacking me on the back of the head again.
" Cause." I replied with a sly smile.
" Cause why?" He asked.
" Cause you wouldn't have asked her." I replied. "Any way we have more important things too do. Like saving the world."
