Chapter Three

After a great dinner of hot dogs, you all know that we are master gourmet chefs!

We went next door to Phoenix's house. We rang the door bell and no one answered.

"You think she's okay?" Christopher said, with an edge of fear and panic in his voice.

"Let's just open the door." I said.

"Oh why didn't I think of that?!" Christopher said as he laughed.

I opened the door and we went in. Phoenix was in her living room talking with her friend

Brooke.

"Hi Christopher." Phoenix said, as she got up from her seat.

"Hi Phoenix." Christopher said, then he blushed.

"Ask her out!" I whispered in his ear.

He smacked me on the back of head had."I don't even like her!" He whispered into my ear.

"What are you guys talking about?" Brooke asked quizzically.

"I was just telling Christopher that he should" But Christopher cut me off and cupped his hand over my mouth.

"We were talking about the fact that I am such a good student." Christopher covered.

"Yeah right." Brooke said with a skeptical look.

Brooke is Phoenix's best friend. Brooke is an only child, her mom Cassie, is a lawyer. Her

dad, Nick is a dentist. Brooke is a lot like Phoenix, only she's more of a "peace maker" she

always wants to see both sides of the story, I guess that really cool.

Brooke has short chin length blond hair, and brown eyes.

"Let's go try this thing out!" Phoenix chirped and did a cartwheel.

"Wait! Not with Brooke in the house!" I yelled waving my arms around.

"I already know all about it!" Brooke admitted shyly.

"Phoenixes, next time, tell me if you're going to do something like this!" I said with my arms folded on my chest.

"Yes sir!" Phoenix said to salute me.

"Okay, let's go to the basement." I said with a sigh. To tell you the truth, I was a little scared of what we might find.

I should learn to listen to my instincts. But it's to late now. Way too late.

When we were in the basement Phoenix closed the door. That way if her mom, Jody, got

back from the mall shopping with her friend early, she wouldn't see anything.

Her dad Ben wouldn't get back from office for a while. Her four-year-old twin sisters' Rachel, and Sara were still at Pre K. Her seven-year-old sister Maggie was still at talent show practice. Her six-month-old baby sister Claudia was at Phoenix's Grandmother's house for the day. And her older sister Dion, was at some friend's house.

"Okay so how do we start this thing'?" Christopher asked turning it up and down and shaking it.

"Let me see it." I said with a sigh.

I wish I had never said that.

"Okay." Christopher said as he handed it to me his hand trembling.

I looked at the little computer, it, in a way, had a screen.

I pushed the little key pad, I typed in some random numbers ( 11261984)

"You have accessed the sector 91285 accessed approved. Place the key on the door."

"What the heck! That computer!"

"It just talked!" Christopher finished for me.

"That didn't just happen." Brooke said in disbelief.

"Oh yes it did!" Phoenix said, almost jumping up and down from excitement. I hade a feeling that she actually wanted this all to happen.

"Humans." A voice said. But a voice that you could hear, and feel. Like deep in your bones, this was too real.

"Place the computer on the door."

I did.

"Do no fear what you do not know." The voice said to us.

Then it all went black. Then we were in a place, so strange, and cool, that I could not

even begin to tell you what it looked like.
