Chapter Twenty-Nine
I was back in the underground Nox base, how I got there, I had no idea.
No time to think. Just run.
I got through the exit and just kept running.
"Ryan!" A voice called out to me from far off. It echoed off the walls of the tunnel.
I turned, and it was my mom and dad!
"Ryan because you're so courageous the Nox have decided to let us free!" My dad said as he and my mother hugged me.
I felt so warm and happy. I finally had my family back.
And it all happened so fast.
Ice came out from no where!
I yelled "leave my mom and dad alone!"
But it did no good.
Where were the others when I really needed them?!
Ice leveled her gun and said, "bye-bye" and Ka-pop!' Ka-pop!'
My mom and dad fell to the ground into their own pools of blood.
Ice laughed and said, "you knew that would be victorious you lose!"
"Mom! Dad!" I screamed as I sat straight up in bed breathing hard and sweating.
I felt the beads of sweat pour down my head and neck and I could smell the sweat. The window was opened and I felt a gust of wind swept into my room, it made me shiver because I was wet.
I buried my face in my hands.
My mom came into the room and said, "Ryan are you okay?"
I looked up from my hands and took a deep breath, I could smell the cold clear night air.
"I'm fine." I replied.
"Would you like to tell me your dream?" My mom asked.
"No." I replied looking out the window. I couldn't look her in the face.
"That wasn't a question, now tell me." She said with that mother voice that you don't want to hear at four in the morning.
"Okay." I said with a sigh. "I was playing with my video games when suddenly!" I yelled, and then paused.
"Suddenly what?" My mom asked, her eye brows going up.
"Suddenly, a giant teddy bear came out and tried to strangle me!" I explained.
Or didn't. You can believe whatever you like.
"I'll see about getting you to a therapist soon." My mom said as she left the room.
I listened to hear her foot steps go down the hall back to her room, and then close her bed room door.
When I was sure that she had gone back to bed, I went to my bed room window that didn't have a screen in it, and I threw up. Right out the window. I couldn't take lying anymore, the dream made me sick, and not telling anyone made it worse.
I looked up at the sky, D had said that he had sent out a distress signal to the planets out there.
But it could be days, months, years even before anyone hears it, and who knows how long until anyone comes to help. Until then were on our own.
I looked up at the sky and cursed. I wished there were never such things as aliens.
Chapter Thirty
School was all buzzing around chattering about the dance.
Bernadette was going on and on and on about the fact that a guy one grade higher asked her out to the dance.
"Ryan! Can you believe that John asked me to the dance?!" Bernadette asked me.
Now I'm really glad that Bernadette has a date for the dance, but does she really have to keep telling everyone about it?
"Zak's taking me." Jessica told the girls. Jessica is one if the girls from Bernadette's clique.
Yeah I'm going with John!" Mina from Phoenix and Brooke's clique said while showing the girls the guys' photo.
"I'm going with Erek!" Jenna, one of Phoenix and Brookes girls in their clique said with a smile.
We were then joined by some new boy.
"Hi what's your name?" I asked the guy.
"Shane." He answered as he sat down at our table.
"Dude! who are you going with?" Lee asked.
"Who me?" I asked.
"You." Lee replied poking me in the chest.
"Well Brooke said she'd go with me." I said to my buds.
"I'm going with April." Lee bragged.
"So Christopher, who are you taking?" Howe asked as he rocked back in his chair.
"Uhhh . . . " He trailed off and looked over at Phoenix at her table. "Phoenix" he finished.
"Way-to-go Christopher!" JC yelled as he gave him a high five.
"Look!" Brian whispered as he pointed over at Phoenix.
"She's smiling at you Christopher!" Kevin whispered.
"She's got the mLeeor hots for you man!" Tim said with a grin.
Christopher turned a nice shade of crimson.
"Hey Ryan! Do you like Brooke as in LIKE?" Shane asked as he leaned in closely to me.
I stopped to think, she is really pretty, and I do worry about her, and she gives me that feeling whenever she's around. Yeah. I like her as in LIKE.
"Nah. She's okay." I replied, they didn't need to know I like her.
After school we waited for the girls, some of Phoenix's friends were saying how sorry they were that her father was killed.
She looked more mad than sad about it.
She and Brooke walked over to us and we started home.
"Hey Brooke!" Shane yelled as he ran up to Brooke.
"Hi Shane." She replied as she smiled at him.
"Hi Ryan," Shane said as he looked over at me.
"Hi Shane." I replied.
"Well I'll see you guys later." Shane said with a smile, Brooke nodded and he left.
"He's such a nice guy." Brooke said as we walked home.
Oh brother. I thought to myself.
"So how's your mom and dad?" Brooke asked me.
I glanced over at Phoenix and Christopher. Phoenix slipped her hand into Christopher's.
"My mom and dad are okay, I guess. My mom has a big bruise on her head." I said with
a sigh.
We walked on silence all the way back home. Our minds were filled with so much stuff that no
one should know. It makes your head feel like it's about to explode into a million tiny bits.
"We girls will see you boys at the dance!" Phoenix said as she pulled Brooke into her house.
"Ryan!" My mom yelled when I had walked through the front door. "Your father and I are going to a meeting of the One World Group." And then they went right out the front door.
I almost cried. And when I say almost, I mean I didn't really cry. Instead I ran to my room got my stuff, and ran over to Christopher's house.
I flung his front door open and ran up his stares. Then I opened his bed room door.
"Ryan! Dude! I'm dressing!" He yelled. "You're not supposed to open the door when a lady is dressing!" He said in a squeaky voice.
"You're no lady!" I yelled as I hit him with a pillow.
So you'd think we were normal, or at least reasonablely normal. But we're not anymore.
