Chapter twenty-four
The door lead to the danger room, relief.
[Ryan, dude, your back looks nasty.] Christopher commented.
We powered down, and Brooke was unconscious.
"She is very lucky that the suites are made so that when you power down you are free of any wounds inflicted when in battle." D said with a soft laugh.
I waited for Brooke to wake up, and Phoenix went on to curse, and call the woman that killed her father, more names then I aloud to say.
"When I get my hands on her, I will ring her bloody neck!" Phoenix yelled digging her own finger nails into her head.
"Phoenix, I just lost my mom and dad, what do you want me to do?!" I screamed.
She turned her back to me, and wouldn't talk to anyone, Christopher was just sitting with her.
You'd think that he would sit with me, but he chose Phoenix instead, I really should have known that he would pick her first.
Brooke stirred and opened her eyes.
"Brooke!" I yelled as I hugged her.
"How's Phoenix?" Brooke asked in a low whisper.
"Saying more words than I can say." I replied as I looked over my shoulder at her.
"I have made it so that you will no longer have to travel by this so called bus." D said with one of his playful laughs. "You can now get almost any where with the use of the computer door
key."
"We better get home." I said at last.
"Go home? You want to go home?!" Phoenix yelled.
"Yeah. Brooke has to get some rest, Christopher is shaking like mad, you're going crazy, and I'm about to shoot myself!" I yelled.
"But what about my dad?" Phoenix said, I could see the tears just trying to fall from her eyes, but yet they never did.
"He's dead, and we can't bring him back." I said with tears in my eyes.
"I'll never be ready to go home." Phoenix said with a strange smile. "But I can't stay here, my life has to go on."
And with that she punched in her code, and went through the door.
Christopher just walked in tears running down his cheeks and his face dark and lost.
Brooke fallowed them through, and just as I went to step through D put his hand on my shoulder and said, "what happened to my people will not happen to your people." And with those words I went through the door. Back into reality, a bleak, dim, and lost world that we had to save.
I walked through my front door and my brother was walking around the house in his boxers, it was only eleven o'clock you see.
"Hey short boy." My brother said as he flopped onto the couch.
He calls me short boy' though he knows that I am not short, I guess it's because I'm taller
than him.
I went to my room to sleep, I was just laying there for so long, then I guess I fell asleep. Because when I woke up, it was five o'clock, and I was hungry. I headed into the kitchen and saw my mom and dad, just sitting there, mom making dinner and my dad reading the paper.
I was astonished to find them in the house, at first I was emotionless, but then I felt enraged as the memories flooded back. It was that anger that felt like you're being stabbed all over with a thousand ice cold needles.
"Hey Ya Ryan!" My dad chirped as he put down the paper.
He seemed so I don't know normal and yet what did I expect? Him to be running around in
shorts, a Hawaiian tee shirt, and a base ball hat? This stuff it different, this is real, he wasn't
dressed funny and riding a skate board, he was just like he always was.
"Is something wrong Ryan dear?" My mom asked as her concerned mother' face flashed over her face.
I wanted to yell, no! You're being controlled by an alien that is flowing through your body!' But instead I said, "I didn't get any sleep last night, so I took a nap, I guess I'm still out of it."
"Okay." My mom said as she turned back to the chicken that she was cooking.
"Why don't you set the table?" My dad said as he put down his paper.
"Yeah, yeah, um right." I said as I went over to the drawer and started to get out silver wear. "What's for dinner?" My brother asked as he slipped into the kitchen.
"Your mothers famous chicken!" My dad said as he looked over my moms' shoulder.
"Oh." Justin said as he sank down into his chair and rolled his eyes.
I set the table and we ate our dinner, you know the usual, mom and dad ask about your day and you listen to them talk about what boring stuff they did at work, or whom they talked to
on the phone. Like I really care that Alison got new wall paper, but then again, they really don't care that Christopher won space wars, they don't know what it is, and if they did they really couldn't understand any way.
I went to my room, and just sat there, and you know what I did? I cried, could I have saved them instead of just wimping out? Could I have saved Phoenix's dad? All I know is what I didn't do, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't, is what I thought as I fell asleep that night. And it's what I dreamed about all night.
