Chapter Nineteen
At five o'clock we went to my house and got sandwiches, and then snuck back out.
we then headed to the bus stop, we waited for the bus.
"What is a bus?" D asked looking at me.
"It's a way for us to get from one place to another." Brooke explained for me.
"Oh, I see now." D replied.
Just then the bus pulled up and the doors opened.
"What is that?" D asked.
"It's a bus." I replied.
"Let's get on before it leaves!" Phoenix said as she got on, she handed the bus driver the money and then she headed for the back of the bus.
I got in and gave him my money and D followed me in and I paid for him.
Everyone got on the bus and took a seat.
"This is going to be one long ride." Christopher said with a sigh.
You see we couldn't bring Game Boy, or books, or head sets. We had left all our stuff in my shed, that way we would look like we left.
But we didn't have the time to worry about what we brought with us, so all we have is money, and food.
"These clothes are very strange." D said as he looked at his clothes, I thought that they
looked really cool.
"So Brooke, heard any good gossip?" Phoenix asked trying to make conversation.
"Phoenix, how many times have I told you not to gossip?" Brooke said sounding like my mother.
"A million!" Phoenix replied.
Then Phoenix and Brooke started to whisper and giggle.
I was about to ask them what was so funny, when some old man wearing orange pants and a pale blue shirt sat down in front of us.
"You kids old enough to be on your own?" The guy asked us.
"Yeah, dude man, see we aren't ya plain, old homies, we cool." Christopher replied.
"Have you ever been to the moon?" The old dude said suddenly.
"No sir!" Brooke answered.
"I've been to the moon," the old dude replied.
"How'd you get there?" Phoenix asked, turning and facing him.
"Ever since I was a little boy, I had wished I could go to the moon. In my heart I knew I would get there." The man said.
"Yeah, but just because you want something to happen, doesn't mean that it will." Christopher cut in.
"YES IT WILL!" The old dude shouted. "Yes it will." He repeated much more softly. "Even if you had to save the world form little green men from Mars, if you believe deep down in your hearts that you can save the world." He stopped. "You will." He said a low whisper.
Then the bus stopped, and the guy got off.
We turned and looked at each other, then back out the window, and the old dude was gone!
"Did he just disappear?" Christopher asked, or more yelled.
"You mean that it is not a usual occurrence for elderly male humans to vanish like that?" D asked.
"No. At least not on this planet." Phoenix answered.
"That was really strange," Brooke admitted.
"And he never even told us how he got to the moon!" Phoenix wined.
We all laughed at Phoenix.
