Chapter One

Ryan is the name that my parents gave to me.

Yet I'd have to say that names don't really tell you much, not when the end of the world is near. So much has changed, my family, my friends, and I have changed.

I think I need to go back to the beginning.

It all started on a warm sunny day. The grass was freshly cut. The sun felt so good on my

back and shoulders, I breathed in the smell and let it back out again.

I was in the park with my best friend Christopher.

Christopher is as tall as I am, and he is also my age. He has brown straight hair that comes to the tips of his ears, and dark brown eyes. Well he is sometimes a very strange guy, but we can't really say that anyone is strange, can we? He also has a major crush on the girl that lives next door to me!

Her name is Phoenix. He sits next to her in school, I think she might like him. His

mom Amber is a veterinarian, and his dad Lance has been dead for a year now.

I bet that you want to know what I look like right? Okay, I have blond hair, and blue eyes, and I Bother Justine.

Any way, Christopher and I were just going to the park to hang out, you know, play some

soccer.

I'd have to say that I was kicking his sorry butt.

We were just kicking the ball around when, Christopher yelped "Oh man! There's Phoenix!"

Sure enough, Phoenix was heading our way, along with a few of her friends.

Phoenix is tall, with straight, brown hair, that is just past her shoulder. Her clothes always look cool, but never too dressy. See there's just one thing about Phoenix. Phoenix is not your typical cool girl.

She never was.

See she is kinda aggressive, sometimes in a good way. Very out spoken, someone beating the circus animals, she is going to see that she sends around an E-mail telling her E-Mail pals. She has lived next door to me all my life, and she has been one of my closest friends. At one point I had a crush on her, but I got over it. Phoenix would play with me and Christopher, back when we still played with rubber baby toys. She has one older sister, and four little sisters!

"Hi" Phoenix said as she spotted us.

"You, um, want . . . to" Christopher, started. But couldn't get the words out, before he had to turn his head and look away as he blushed.

"You want to play?" I finished for him. Christopher thanked me silently.

"Sure." She replied with a sweet smile that she has.

"We'll see you later." Her friends said as they spotted another group of girls and wondered off.

"I am going to kick your boy's butts!" Phoenix said as she kicked the ball, it went into the

bushes. She ran over to get the ball, "Guys! You must see this!" Phoenix yelled as she

backed up from the bush.
