I am
interested in Microbial Biotechnology. The study of enzymes is the main objective.
The title of my Ph.D. Thesis is " Studies on Production of Bacterial Xylanases ". Xylanases are
hydrolases acting on xylan, one of the major hemicelluloses present in plant cell walls
Recently xylanases are gaining attention as industrially important enzyme. The study included
microbiological and biochemical aspects. Production and characterisation of other hydrolytic
enzymes including cellulases, proteases and amylases from Bacillusspp.
were also studied during the research period. The 20 - 22 kDa Xylanase has been purified from
the most potent xylanase producer, Bacillus SSP-34.The application studies showed remarkable inclrease in ISO Brightness of commercial pulp samples treated with SSP-34
xylanase. Other activities - Successfully purified
alkaline Proteases from Bacillus SGP-26 - molecular weight SGP-26 I, 30 kDa
and a low molecular protein SGP II, (10-15).
