You opened your eyes

And looked at me.

I can see the understanding.

How could this be?

I took your life away

With barely a second thought.

I’d expect you to hate me

And have me caught.

You amaze me,

I must say.

To not hate me

In every living way.

You said your were shouting,

Calling out for us to hear.

Seeking out your friends

Knowing that they care.

I am so relieved

To see your smile once more

And you must know that

I will treasure it forevermore.

I wish I could hold your hand

To show you how much I care.

But it wouldn’t seem right

And I wouldn’t dare.

I’m sorry for what I did, Sam,

But you already know.

I can’t tell you how much that means

But I should have long ago.

I am thankful you are here,

Standing right next to me.

I wish for more

But, yet, it can’t be.

I’ll settle for this,

Having you here.

To laugh at my jokes

And showing that you care.
