Origins Outcasts 2002

Origins Outcasts 2002 is finished!

Due to games not getting played (and a realization that these ships are currently outcasts for a reason), we cut off the tournament after only three rounds. As such, everyone who participated is a winner, but this debacle will not be repeated next year. Many thanks to all who participated, thank you for your suggestions, and maybe... just maybe... we'll see one of these ships in the winner's circle someday!

Welcome to Origins Outcasts 2002!  This is an effort to create a fun, interesting, and different tournament to be played while the elite of Star Fleet Battles attend some of the largest Face-to-Face tournaments held each year.

Games and Victory (or Seize the Day):

  • The tournament will run in 4 rounds.  Every player who signs up will play in each of the four rounds.

  • The winner of the tournament will be determined by overall record.  If more than one player is tied after four rounds, a simple playoff will be held to determine the winner.

  • Winning this tournament will get you the pride and respect of your peers.  No ace card will be awarded.  But all players are encouraged (required, even!) to have fun.

  • Each player must have a current Star Fleet Battles Online (SFBOL) account to participate.  The tournament standard is to play games on SFBOL Version 2.5, but if both players agree, a different standard can

  •  be used (Face-to-Face, V3.0).  PBEM, however, is not acceptable.  (Of course, I'd be impressed if you could get a PBEM tournament game done in 2 weeks).

Ship Selection (or Lack Thereof):

  • Upon signing up, each player will select two ships from the Eligible Ship List.  These are two ships that the player wishes NOT to fly in the first round.

  • Ships will be assigned by random selection to all players for Round 1.

  • Upon winning a game in each round, the victorious player will then fly the ship he just defeated in the following round.

  • Upon losing a game in each round, the losing player will then fly the ship that just blew him out of the stars in the following round.

Eligible Ship List (or Ships That Origins Forgot):

The Eligible Ship List consists of the 7 tournament cruisers that did NOT make the final 16 at the 2001 incarnation of Origins.  These ships, dubbed the "Origins Outcasts," form the pool of available ships for this tournament.

Andromedan
LDR
Lyran
Neo-Tholian
Romulan FireHawk
Romulan King Eagle
Seltorian

Scheduling (or How to Make Friends Using a Phaser):

  • The tournament is scheduled to take about two to three months for four rounds of play, plus any extra games needed to determine an ultimate winner.
  • ORIGINS: The largest SFB Tournament takes place at Origins each year.  This tournament, however, is not meant to exclude individuals seeking victory at Origins.  As such, a little extra time will be allotted for the first round (as Origins kicks off the third quarter).
  • GenCon: The largest gaming convention in the U.S.A.  This tournament is not meant to exclude individuals seeking to go to GenCon.  As such, a little extra time will be allotted for the third round (as GenCon is at the start of August).
  • Star Fleet Battles Online "Standard" Etiquette will be followed.  If an opponent doesn't respond to your emails, misses a scheduled game, needs an extension, etc., please contact Francois42.
  • In the event of a cancelled game, a decision will be made as to who was the winner and who was the loser for the purposes of the next round's ship assignments.

Sign-Ups (or How to Get On This Crazy Train):

  • Sign-ups for Origins Outcasts 2002 are now closed. If you signed up and don't appear on the tournament roster, please contact Francois42 immediately.
