N3F SciFi Fantasy Page

The National Fantasy Fan Federation , better known as The N3F, has been around since April of 1941. It's one of the oldest science fiction and fantasy fan groups in existence. The N3F is a meeting place for people who still have that sense of wonder and want to share it with other like minded people. The N3F publishes a quarterly zine; The National Fantasy Fan, which is commonly called "The Fan". The primary goal of The N3F is contact. Neffers share information about conventions, games, computers, writing, films, literature, other science fiction and fantasy topics. HOW TO GET YOUR MONEY'S WORTH FROM N3F Become active fast. It's amazing how quickly a year can go by. If you like writing letters, the Round Robins, the Correspondence Bureau and the OnLine Bouncing Robins are great places to start. Write to the heads of the bureaus you are interested in. Ask what you can do to help or participate, or simply ask questions about the subject. The bureau heads usually have knowledge or at least enthusiasm about the subject the bureau relates to. Anytime you ask for information, send a SASE (self addressed stamped envelope) with your request. It's the polite thing to do, and it may mean you get a faster response. Running the bureaus can get pretty expensive. Volunteer. The Birthday Card Bureau and the Welcommittee always need help. If there is a bureau open you are interested in, ask the president if you can be the head. You don't have to be an expert; learn as you go works in most situations in N3F. Ask the President if you can create a new bureau about an interest of yours. Read and write letters of comment for the FAN If you don't have time to write personal letters or you can't afford to, LoC's are great. You can communicate with the whole club and only send in something every couple of months. The FAN also accepts convention reports, book and media reviews, and other articles from members. If you would like to have your own fanzine, but don't have the time or means, N'APA may fulfill some of your needs. It costs about $10 in addition to your N3F dues and the activity level can be as low as three times a year. The most important thing is to participate to the extent that you are comfortable. Like so many things in life, you get out of N3F what you put into it.
