09/28/2003DISCUSSION/FEEDBACK POSTING GUIDELINES:
1. Please keep discussion on-topic.
I really want people to have fun on this list and to not feel too constrained, while at the same time keeping things on-topic. I believe that as long as people keep in mind that there are topic rules, we won't have any problem striking a good balance that'll keep people happy, entertained and interested in what's being posted.
On-topic discussions include detailed, constructive feedback related to posted fanfiction, Stargate SG-1 episodes with specific reference to Sam and/or Janet, and issues related to aspects of the show, particularly if they are of use to writers. For example, a discussion about the US military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy as it relates to Sam/Janet would be considered on-topic.
Off-topic discussions include (but are not limited to) chain letters, advertisements, virus alerts, "me, too" posts, and anything that does not specifically relate to Sam and/or Janet.
Basically, when in doubt, please don't hesitate to ask me privately at .
2. Constructive feedback from all listmembers is strongly encouraged.
If you loved someone's story, tell us why and what you loved about it. If you have a few issues with a story, such as with elements of the plot or characterization, share them with the author and the list. In addition to the discussion, I would like this list to be a valuable, constructive and useful forum for writers and readers alike.
Many writers are grateful when someone takes the time to write a thoughtful, polite review of their story. Speaking for myself, I know for a fact that my ego is not so delicate that it can't handle a little less-than-glowing constructive feedback.
3. Flaming will not be tolerated.
Constructive criticism of a story, even when it is less than positive, is NOT a flame. Similarly, disagreeing with someone is NOT a flame. Insulting a person's appearance, intellect, heredity, sexuality, gender, etc., is a flame and will not be tolerated.
4. Please limit quoted material.
While there is no specific limit, please quote back ONLY the relevant portion of a previous post when replying to the list.
