The Burke County Courthouse, Waynesboro, Georgia

Built upon land that was once inhabited by a tribe of Creek Indians, the first Burke County Courthouse was a simple Log Cabin, which burned to the ground in 1825. The next Courthouse, built upon the same location, would fall victim to the same fate, burning less than a year after it was built, in 1856. The current Courthouse, built in 1857, which was set a flame, but not destroyed in 1864, still stands in silent vigil over mainstreet Waynesboro, Georgia. Today, it is one of the oldest brick buildings still in use in Georgia. County Employees have reported an elevator in the building travelling up and down by itself, as if some unseen visitor travels from floor to floor. Given the troubled past of this location, it is certainly possible that this building could be haunted.

The Haunted Pillar, 5th & Broad Street, Augusta, Georgia

There are several different stories involving the Haunted Pillar of 5th & Broad, but most local legends have the same idea about the pillar's past. The most popular, tells a story about a Slave Market in the 1800's, of which the pillar was a part. As one slave was being sold, he cursed the pillar that he was chained to. Today, this pillar is all that remains of the market. The pillar has been scheduled to be removed several times in the past, but anyone who has ever tried to move it has died an untimely death. Not long ago, a man wrecked his automobile into the pillar. Even though the wreck was not bad, and the man's injuries did not appear to be life threatening, he was found dead in his car by Paramedics.
