Background:
Aram grew up as a street urchin on the back alleys of Waterdeep.
He has no idea who his parents are or what became of them (and he really
doesn’t care). The young elf made a meager living as a beggar and
cutpurse. It wasn’t long before Aram was caught up in the dark world
of organized crime. He didn’t particularly enjoy it but it was only
a means to an end. He dreamt of the day he would leave the filthy
alleyways behind and live in luxury as the nobles in Waterdeep. Aram
was member of several thieves’ guilds; unusual anywhere but the City of
Splendors where the secretive Lords would quickly crush most guilds that
happened to spring up. Still he managed to hone his skills and gain
quite a reputation in the dirtier parts of town
The last guild of which the elf was a member was headed by a
cruel halfling named Charrin. Aram caught word on the streets that
the guildhouse was about to raided by the Guard. Not particularly
caring for the guildmaster, he swiped a few gems of the halfling’s that
he had always had his eye on and warned a few friends before skipping town.
Aram was on the road several miles north of Waterdeep and had
no idea where to go to start his new life. He convinced himself that
his thieving days were far behind and that he would use the gems to maybe
start a business somewhere and become respectable. The elf soon encountered
a caravan bound for Luskan and got himself hired on as a guard. Luskan
was as good as place to start as anywhere.
Not long after arriving in the City of Sails, Aram found himself
in hot water once again. A large festival was in full swing and one
exhibit in particular caught his eye. Some rich fellow had his entire
(and impressive) gem collection on display. This was just too much
temptation for the gem-loving elf to pass up. In the dead of night,
when most of the city was locked up and asleep, Aram approached the booth
and quickly had the lock open. He never stopped to consider why there
was only one simple lock protecting such a valuable display. As his
hand approached the first gem, it became apparent why. All manner
of magical traps were sprung and the night air was full of blaring sirens
and dancing lights. When the commotion died away, Aram was magically
held in place and surrounded by soldiers. The rich fellow who owned
the gems turned out to be a powerful and well respected mage who was none
to happy to see his prize possessions the victims of attempted larceny.
The mage had several ideas on how to deal with the thief, most involving
banishment to the Abyss. Eventually, the old man was calmed and as
part of a deal struck between the city and the mage, Aram was carried in
a cart, still paralyzed, several miles into the wilderness and left there.
He was then informed that he was never again to approach the city gates
of Luskan; under penalty of death.
Luckily nothing hungry happened by before the spell wore off
and Aram was still in one piece. Not at all bothered by the incident,
the elf turned back south for Waterdeep, or anywhere in between.
Description
Aram is an elf who stands 5’4” tall and weighs around 130 pounds.
He has dark blonde hair that is kept long and tied back. His eyes
are green and a mischievous gleam always seems to present. He wears
a suit of black leather armor he “found” during his guild days; he is quite
proud of it and will give it up. The rest of his clothes are black
as well with exception of his cloak that is midnight blue in color.
His only visible weapons are a scimitar hanging from the right side of
his belt and a dagger from the left. Daggers are also concealed in
each boot and one strapped across his lower back. He fights two handed
with the scimitar in his left hand and the dagger in his right.
Aram has a hard time taking anything seriously and as a result
often gets into a lot of trouble. He finds it especially enjoyable
to torment paladins and priests who seem to take themselves to seriously.
He gets crazy ideas at times and is not afraid to try and make them work.
Companions are a good thing for him for no better reason then to keep him
reigned in. He will never abandon a friend or truly endanger one’s
life, though he may get himself into trouble that his friends will have
to bail him out of.
Aram travels for the excitement and the gems. He has a
fondness for gems that can’t be expressed with words. He is still
convinced that he is no longer a thief and becomes very insulted if anyone
ever refers to him as one.
